Longer Range Spotlights
The spotlights can light things over a short distances, far enough to light a ship right intfront of you, but no further. Surely the spotlights should have a much longer range.

It's a matter of game preformance, rendering all that light puts a bit of a strain, and the longer the range, the large the cone of light, with an exponential increase in the amount that must be rendered (and thus the strain on the machine)

I know, but they intend to do optimisation in Beta, and many people's computers (mine included) could handle it even now, so i dont see why they need to nerf the lights based on current performance.

I'm quite sure mine can't, and there are probably many people who's computers CAN'T handle that yet. Have to take in consideration for as many as possible, not just those with the best PCs.

Im saying that from what i heart Alpha was content, and Beta was optomisation, so are they going to sacrefice some content because it didnt work before customisation?

Now with adjustable light radii for spotlights, they can be tailored to suit your computer for best performance, but having a 2m wide spotlight only able to cast light 10m in front of it is too unrealistic. I would like the option of having a 100m spotlight range. And 5m for small spotlights? My mining ship doesn't cast light on the wall of an asteroid until it's less than 1 ship length away. Pretty useless. The light effect that sticks out of the spotlight is bigger than the range of the spotlight. We need to find another way to optimize this

it really should be increased, or at least give an easy option in a config file to increase the max distance of the lights. it seems silly that id have to put them on the tip of the drills to get any real effect out the light

i did find a way to increase the max radius of the spotlight, although it started doing wierd things when close to objects at radiuses larger than 5
