Need help in constructing a large hangar
Hi there, as the title says, I'm constructing a hanger for fighters which is 11x25 blocks in area. Obviously, standard hangar doors are much too small, and I can't find a consistent guide for large hangars.
Could someone either direct me to the nearest guide on large-door construction, or instruct me on the proper use of Pistons/Blastdoors
(I know of the modded hangar doors with increased height, but I'm trying to stay vanilla.)

Blast doors are not airtight. Pistons cannot push full blocks past full blocks. So you need to make use of blast door blocks around the pistons or other incomplete blocks. You can use full blocks attached to pistons to make corners touch to make a seal, but still don't think that you can make this completely airtight. Any airtight faces which are in contact with other airtight faces will make the blocks no longer move by the pistons.

Larger than 4 spaces means more pistons and more of the door encased in the wall.

You can always double up airtight hangar doors to make a 10m opening. Blast doors are fine if you don't care about pressurizing your hangar. Blast doors are also moved by pistons, which are a lot faster than AHDs. Might be important in a combat situation.

If you want to get more involved, and possibly invoke clang, you can try merge block doors. They work like a Fallout vault door, with a large slab of metal that external mechanisms shift around. Here's the rough idea;

If you use this option, make sure you're landing your small craft with landing gear rather than connectors. Otherwise, you'll have fighters popping around your hangar like dice in a bar blender.

if you want to get REALLY weird, try making a fighter with a strict 3x3 cross section. Then you can fit them into launch tubes capped with plain ol' sliding doors.

Makes me question, are merge blocks even needed in that case? Corners touching a face or other corners should create a seal. If you use 2 pistons to pull the door flush, and a rotor to move it out of the way along a hinge, you shouldn't have much sway from the pistons and the rotor should keep things are a fixed angle.

Still probably not an ideal situation since we would be dealing with a large interior space that can randomly decide to vent atmosphere, but leads to a question.

The merge blocks allow for pressurization. The seams where the armor slopes meet will form a single grid room that holds atmosphere, but they don't actually connect.

Personally, I just use 5-7 doubled up airtight hangar doors and design my small grids (and one large) to fit in this space. You can even make vehicle airlocks this way.

I think the OP was wanting to house ships larger than 4 large grid blocks tall in a sealed space, which ends up exceeding what hangar doors allow. The problem is that pistons and blast doors don't allow a sealed space so they cannot be used for containing something wider than 4 blocks in all directions.

merge block is good idea use but need experiment and carefull design, since it can be sticky if it goes wrong way.
