The save file is a .sbs
You can find yours here:
http://steamidfinder.com/
The game is already so slow and tedious but if you finally achieve something you lose everything if you have to make a fresh install of your OS.
Seriously what could be in the brain of dev when they think about that? Steam cloud not working with the files more of that.
Save games should be at 2 potential places, in documents or in the directory of the game, nowhere else.
Stop putting all your sh*t everywhere in windows and after complain there is issues or the OS is slow, first spaming registry and now spaming users directory, how clever.
True, but it doesn't change the fact that the current save location is asinine. A lot of people probably don't even know that the AppData folder even exists, let alone how to find it.
To anyone who can't: make sure you have "show hidden files and folders" turned on
The only excusable reason for a game to put saves here is if the game was developed before Windows Vista. From Vista onwards, Windows made it so that programs without admin privilages can't modify the Program Files directory. There needed to be a place for Windows to put the save files of older games that were coded to store them in the game directory (assuming they were installed under Program Files that is).
That's part of the reason I install all my games to a Games directory
That's true, but many game devs didn't use that location at the time because there was no reason to. Now there's no reason not to.
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\SpaceEngineers\Saves
set hiden folders on
FIX FOR DX11 go to your saves folder:
(C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\(numbers)\(name of your world))
in your world file find sandbox.sbc (back it up) and open it with notepad ++ or different editor search for cargo.
change enable cargo ships to true
save
exit
YAY!
apart from that, i agree. savegames do not belong anywhere on C:/.
i have an ssd for my os and an hdd for everything else.
so far it makes sense. the hdd is sturdier but slower. the ssd is smaller, can break faster if it frequently has to read/write a lot of stuff but it also works a lot quicker. and another advantage is that, in the event something goes wrong with my os, i can fix it very quickly and easily without losing anything important, because all my stuff is safely stored on the hdd. at least that's how it works with older games, from times when devs still had enough common sense to not put the savefiles of their games in random locations on C:/. newer games like space engineers though? nope. just put it somewhere on C:/, whatever, idgaf.
now, i am wondering, why does at least half of my games so desperately want to fill my os-partition with savegames? they don't belong there, even the games themselves aren't there so why do so many devs insist on putting them there?
honestly feels as if i was a father and my children would keep throwing all their toys around in my study, insisting that they belong there and it is absolutely neccessary.
really annoying as ♥♥♥♥.
