WORLD FILE IS CORRUPTED
So, about 4 hours into making my ship(And making sure I had quick-saved and saved manually all the time), I suddenly was greeted with a crash. Okay, that's fine, I can deal with that. HOWEVER, my world file is now corrupted, and unable to be loaded.

So what's the deal? I can only specify my world to be saved on one place, and that's it? What if it gets corrupted like mine did, and all my time goes to waste because of that? I didn't even get to have screenshots of it.

I'm extremely upset by the lack of save world choices. Bugs and crashes I can understand, but to be PHYSICALLY UNABLE to save to multiple instances of the same world in the case of my plight is really irritating.

Of course I'll still be playing this game, but I'm extremely sad that 4 hours of gameplay was lost to a bug.

If you are so upset about it, then take the minute to copy the file, and back it up onto a different place in the computer. Then if your world does get corrupted, then revert back a little bit by taking the old file and putting it back.

The fact that I even have to consider doing something like that is ridiculous. It's understood that this is a early release, and glitches and crashes are inevitable. As a programmer, I find it a little absurd that not being able to specify a new file from which to save my game from is 'too difficult' for the developers.

Yes, your suggestion is valid, just as it is to drive to a farm 50 miles out and get your vegetables there. A solution? Definitely. Convenient? Hell no.

aznz I am having exactly the same problem. 5 hours into the construction of one of builds I was just about finished and my PC crashed resulting in the corruption of the file.

The only way I thought of fixing it was to locate the file and use restore to a previous version. But there's only one problem. I can't locate the file anywhere. I have come to the conclusion that it must be stored in the clould somewhere, and if thats the case you may be able to restore it.

I'll get back to you on it if I find a solution.

Scratch that, they are located in appdata. And apparently I have no previous versions. Hopefully you do other wise I'm out of Ideas.

Or the game could do the same thing as Terraria and other games, and simply keep the last known good save as a backup save that it silently uses instead if the latest save is corrupt.

I had the same problem after about four hours of work, however, I was able to salvage my file.

First, if you only have one save file (The corrupted one) make a new game, with the exact same settings. Save and quit (You can use a pre-existing one too if you already have one).

Then navigate to "%appdata% > SpaceEngineers > Saves". Open both your corrupted world folder, and the new world folder you just created. Select ALL the files in the new world folder, and drag them over to your corrupted world folder. Do NOT "Copy and Replace". You're only moving in the missing files, and NOT rewriting over any. Once finished, launch the game and load your corrupted world save.

This worked for me, and the only progress I lost was the time from the last autosave.

Hello, just delete both '.xmlcache' files in your save folder, this usually fixes the problem, when not, just post saves here and we'll take a look at it.

EDIT: fixed file name

@Moss Cow

The file extension is '.xmlcache' . The files should be called 'SANDBOX_0_0_0_.xmlcache' and 'sandbox.xmlcache'. Delete both those and it should fix it.

Mh isnt working for me. I deleted both files and its still corrupted. I also tried to move 2 fresh files in there (from a working save) into it. Still not working. Also the game only creates a Sanbox.xmlcache when I load the corrupted save. Dont know whats wrong....

http://www.file-upload.net/download-8232270/NIN3.rar.html

Name of File "NIN3.rar"
Name of the World "DDDDDDD"

It would be so cool if you could fix it. I spend hours of working on this world. Thx.

Edit: I tried the cool save editor http://www.tall-paul.co.uk/2013/10/28/space-editor-0-8-2-released/ , but its still not working.
So I think that my ship(it self) is broken in some way. That might be the reason why This solution is not working for other players too.

I have uploaded working version of your world on workshop, you can find it at http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=190439560 .

For others having similar issue, there are tips on how to fix this here: http://forums.keenswh.com/post/world-file-is-corrupted-and-could-not-be-loaded-6590974

I did that for my save file and all it did was make the game start to say "Your graphics card isn't supported" when starting the game when it meetsyet my card easily meets the requirements since I can play any game on max settings.
