Everyone builds awesome stuff..
...while every time i try to build a proper ship after hours of working i take a step back and see how derp they are. Then i end up scrapping them and starting again.
PEOPLE THAT BUILD ALL THE AWESOME STUFF IN THE SCREENSHOT SECTION, TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!
Do you draw them on paper first or something?

some people are more artistic than others? I end up editing things 75 times over before i even kinda like things I make in minecraft... this is turning out to be no different

i usually do much better in minecraft..i get a general idea of what i want to build and i more or less build it. Here i have a general idea, i start building, and it looks crap. It's somewhat depressing to see all that awesome stuff posted, lol
Just like Draco says some people are more artistic. I myself can't do crap all. Does not mean I can't have fun building some crazy maze of a complex ship and smash it into an asteroid :)

I played Minecraft for over 3 years and ran several servers and still run servers. I have never once built something nice for aesthetically pleasing.

I play/build for function ;)

First start small, build yourself small fighters first. Make a working one, then start to experiment with rotating building modules to get desired curves. Takes practice :)

i have the same problem lol my ships are just 3d rectangles put to gether insides are somewhat complex and the space station i built was just a huge 3d rectangle with multiple levels. but i would love to build a imperial star destroyer but i dont even know where to start to get the triangle shape, you are not alone haha

Stick with it, you may get better.

Me, I know I'm not artistic. At best, I can make cigars and cubes. Or armchairs. But if you can make pretty, try making funny. :)

adding textures will be EPIC!

i've started trying a different approach, the same i use when building houses in sims. Basically i look at other people's screenshots and try to incorporate design parts i like into my own ships..we'll see how it goes

I build from the inside out, I start with the bridge and then imagen where i would walk from there. Like to a hallway leading to medical or engineering.

Then when done with the insides i check the outside which can be very very strange. But filling all the holes and smoothing everything out it usually ends up very... uhm.. unique :D

Same here. I build a transport for cargo and simply started by building stuff that such a ship would NEED.
I currently have it painted and it's ugly as the worst looking mother-in-law. But for some reason I am glad I do it like this, since I am convinced that when it would be built in real-life, it would actually work. In contrast to an easthetically pleasing sci-fi ship which would be useful for nothing.

At least you know you're not the only one not being able to build the beautiful structures :)

Part of the learning experience is experimenting and trying out things you normally wouldn't do. Sometimes this gives you new ideas or a fresh perspective. The second part is inspiration. Having a somewhat detailed design or idea in your head to strive for is usually a good start as it will allow to focus your efforts on achieving a certain outcome. If you're looking for inspiration, just google some things you'd like to recreate in the game.

Most important of all, don't be discouraged after seeing what other people have made. They spent hours and hours on designing and building it, probably starting over more than once. It's not like they had a brain fart and something wonderful appeared. Everybody has to put the work in.

I made a space pick up around 15.380 weight and slowly goes to top speed 104.4. and looks nice. but first start with what do i wane build? how must it react? and do i wane have nice curves or ruff shapes. take the time and look at it. not go building like a crazy goof and finding out you build something ugly
