Even with a pile of random players, I still had a good time. One or more of the group should think of group projects to do together.
1 - Warship able to win the battle against the enemy SPRT stations having Drone spawners on all planets, moons and space from premade worlds in Original Content Category.
2 - Warship solution able to complete "Escort Contract" at Trade stations.
(that is the option named "Economy")
3 - Warship able to conquer and recover Prototech Blocks / Endgame blocks from Factorum Faction stations in space.
___________
+
Main goals :
1 - Find all the Rich ore spots of all Planets and Moons.
2 - Become Rich to build Nuclear ships, those are the best ship concepts of the game.
Battery and Hydrogen
= Minutes of power and need more blocks to recharge/refill on the ship or must create Recharging stations and Gas stations here and there where it is needed.
Reactor with Uranium
= Can give years of power and never need to be recharged, just a bit of Uranium can give months of power.

Keep in mind the following :
Rich ore spots = Where all ores can be found close to each other, some areas have all ores within 1 Km.
Easy Biome = Where the Ore Detector is not needed and no "Bad weather" so no lightning.
The Ore Detector block is not needed because we can see the ore spots with the naked eye on the soil.
Medium Biome = Green grass Biomes because it is harder to see the ore spots on the soil and those have lightning that can damage your creations and you will have to build lightning Rods and Safe Zone (station shield).
Hard Biome = Where there are more lightnings with bad weather and where the ore Detector block is needed.
PVE options are in world advanced settings and goes like this :
- Global Encounter Cap = Factorum Faction stations, enemy in space only.
- Encounter amount = Space and can be setup on creating a new world only.
- Random encounters = Space only
- Enable Drones = Space only.
- Enable planetary encounters = All planets and moons.
+
- The animals count slider and Wolves/Spiders ON/OFF = Wolves on Earth, Spiders on Pertam, Alien and Titan.
You mentioned premade worlds. Is that included in the base game or is it something from the workshop?
Categories :
1 - Sandbox = Worlds where we can do all we want.
2 - Story scenarios = Solo scenarios.
3 - PVP scenarios = To play MP.
4 - Original content = Old worlds and some with enemy on all Planets and Moons.
5 - Community content = Those are worlds to download from the Workshop.
(those are player made scenarios)

Note
-> I am not a SE Dev but forum Moderator community helper/game tester and I help the SE community since 2013 because it's my Favorite Sandbox game on Steam, and they gave me the [Dev] Tag so I can be admin of the Workshop to help more.
1 - Default "Safe mode" = For server admins :
Limited for better MP Perfo where admins can change that limit and to be fair in PVP worlds. (missing blocks and options)
2 - Experimental mode = All in :
Unlocks all World settings + Can add Mods + Can enable Scripts + Can disable "Block limit" + Adds "Share inertia tensor" and unlock "Impulse axis" on piston.
(we enable Experimental from game option in main menu)
Experimental is almost the same as default till you change the world advanced setting.
I personally play the game in single player, but there are many people plying it CoOp.
His scrapyard survival series was good as well. A lot he was doing himself but there were other players on the server with a long term goal.
It would be funny when he logged on again after a session and started finding some of the things the others got up to when he was off-line.
That Race track he like the most because I've also added a "Dog fight arena" to test our Fighters :
