How do I change the color of a block?

Hold CTRL when painting to paint a 3x3 hold SHIFT when painting to paint a 5x5

For people who still can't "repaint" theyr ship press "escape" button, go to option and change the button for the color selection, it worked for me (had literally smashed [ and ] with no resoult) :)

After changing the color by accident i nearly went insane because [ and ] didn't work at all, but the solutuion is if you use an different keyboard Layout for example DE (Shift+alt to change) the default keys are >ß< and >´< those two behind the last number key.

Hope that keybindings will soon be changeable ingame, could save me a lot time.

Was wondering if it is possible to recolor blocks after placing them. So far no method :-/

Also, P when not in a ship opens up the colour selection menu, Shift+P works as a colour picker at any block you're aiming at, useful if you've made a custom colour and it got overwrote. erik, rebind that key in the options menu to a different one, i use capslock

Your crosshair must point at an object you want to repaint (may be tricky to align correctly).

EDIT: I've made a short movie to show how it's done (text is kinda hard to read sometimes, sorry; I don't have my settings here).

@warrior & Rayven: thanks for the tips and @warrior for the video: the part I was missing when trying to color was that I had to select an armor block as brush so to speak. I expected the cursor to count as brush. Now everything works fine, thanks!

yeah I think alot of people had this problem, that you needed any kind of block in hand in order to MMB on an existing block - to recolor
