If it is 100% on its back, just leave it for now and use the equipment to build a little base with better refining to the point you can put atmospheric thrusters on it and flip it over with Gyro's and land it properly.
- dig out a hole under the side that should be on the bottom until the pod falls/rolls in. This takes nothing except the hand drill, and you probably need to dig out a bunch of rock from somewhere anyway to make ingots in the survival kit. Before the pod rolls, go into the control panel and set all the landing gears to autolock, so that they will catch and stop the pod before it rolls too far
- disassemble bits of the pod you don't need in order to build a gyroscope (somewhere inside the armor shell), and use the override controls function on the gyroscope to roll the pod (again set the landing gears to autolock so it stops when they touch the ground)
- build a jack (one or more pistons, optionally with a hinge somewhere and a magnetic plate on the end) pointing down off the side of the pod that should be the top, and use that to push against the ground and roll the pod over
If you have the tech progression system enabled in the options, you may need to build and grind down some other blocks first in order to unlock the gyroscope and pistons. You also may have trouble finding enough of some parts (likely small tubes for the piston strategy, large tubes for the gyroscope), since the survival kit in the pod can't make them; there are a few parts on the pod that have some of each, or you can chase down unknown signals and grind those down for parts.
That said, I just do the steps to spawn at a better area :
Keep in mind we can take control of where we want to spawn, a good trick to build the Respawn station at a easy Biome first and avoid lightning problems on start.
-> Hit F5 while in the First respawn ship to respawn at another area.
+
- If that F5 trick is not working, happens when playing with "Auto-respawn" enabled and/or "Auto-save" enabled :
1 - Turn OFF the Survival Kit on the Drop Pod (so you will not auto respawn there).
2 - Hit the backspace key to "kill" your character and open the Respawn screen.
3 - Select the same Drop Pod to land at another area.
4 - Redo the above till you land at a Easy Biome or Rich ore spot of the game.
____________
Note
Rich ore spots = Where all ores can be found close to each other, some areas have all ores within 1 Km.
Easy Biome = Where the Ore Detector block is not needed because we can see the ore spots with the naked eye on the soil and no "Bad weather" so no lightning.
Medium Biome = Green grass Biomes because it is harder to see the ore spots on the soil and those have lightning that can damage your creations where you will have to build lightning Rods and Safe Zone.
Hard Biome = Where there are more lightnings with bad weather and where the ore Detector block is needed.
Once I can make the pistons, I attach them to the pod in such a way as to allow me to roll it back upright.
If I'm not in the 'mood' for that, then I do as ShadedMJ mentioned, cut/paste my pod back in upright with Admin Tools.
Gyroscopes set to "Override" Max can flip a car on its wheels when upside down but you have to turn it OFF fast so it will not keep rotating.
Better land on a flat terrain to avoid filpping over and that is where the F5 is used.
but landing on a bad terrain adds a different start so different gameplay.
+
Planets have different Biomes that gives us different gameplay.
I recommend to start on the Moons to have all ores very early in survival, Moons have all ores -1 that is Uranium but can be found faster by exploring the asteroids at about 30Km around all Moons.
Edit
Sorry for my bad English, I did corrections here and there.
I have merged your similar discussions to avoid duplicate answers.
I must hit F5 up to +/-10 times to land at a Rich ore spot of the game.
(read post #8 for more details)
EDIT
Sometimes I am lucky and hit the F5 only one time to land at a better area.
