Recommend a blueprint to get me off planet
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but my search skills are failing me... so like three times now I have selected a blueprint for what seemed like a decent starter ship, and in each case I _thought_ I read the description carefully, but in each case I ended up scrapping the project part way through because it actually has ion thrusters and needs platinum. Can anyone recommend a decent blueprint I can weld up and fly off planet? I don't mind building my own if that ends up being the only way but someone must have created one that doesn't need resources you can't get planetside.

It's been a minute since I played SE properly, & I'm not particularly up on the workshop contents either. So as far as recommendations go I'm limited by my personal inventory.

But that said I do have one...

It's large grid; it's a bit of a build project.
There's a rocket launcher on there which you won't be able to build ammo for, but that won't stop you flying it.
(also, experience with the ship says you may not want to build the drill/piston setup. Probably best leaving that off the ship or putting another weapon there.)

Personally in your shoes I would build a really basic hydrogen operated ship on a small grid: make a couple of quick trips up & bring back some Platinum and/or uranium. Refine it planetside & build the ship that you want to take out into space.
If you are just looking for basic ships to get off the planet the ships sold at trade stations have decent basic starter ships, small and large grid. If you haven't used the economy update ships before you can go into a creative game, spawn a bunch of credits and buy a bunch of different ships to find one that fits what you want. Then just blueprint it and use it in your survival game. The small grid merchant and large grid hauler's can get you to orbit pretty easily.
So many options... I've used the same basic design several times, they all end up with subtle variations because I just build and go... a small block ship with two medium cargo containers, two gas generators, three small hydrogen tanks, 8 upways small atmospheric thrusters and a couple in each of fore/aft/port/starboard ... and similar with small hydrogen thrusters, upways ones grouped with controls to toggle and step up/down on thrust override to make efficient ascent simple.

It doesn't need to be pretty if it's just to get you to space in early stage... the two or three medium cargos will carry the parts for the refinery and assembler and other essentials to put down a base once clear of the planet and close to some basic resources... the atmospheric thrusters can be recycled as parts to build the base. Shipbuilding is very much easier in space without the annoying gravity to fight against. ^.^
Thanks for the ideas. I think I found a trading station but I thought it was a mining outpost since it had refineries (iirc) and I got access denied when I tried to interact with anything. I'll have to go back and take another look. Been busy base building and haven't really explored that aspect of the game (I do have economy enabled in the settings).
Shouldn't even need a blueprint. Just build a stack. Start with a large hydrogen thruster on the bottom, put a couple large hydrogen tanks on it, then stick a power source, O2 generator, cockpit, gyro and a couple small hydrogen thrusters on that.

Hi, when I start on Planet, I create a small ship that use enough Atmos thrusters to be able to fly, add a few Hydro thrusters on all sides and the need upward Hydro thruster that I turn ON only for the needed push to exit the P. Gravity that is where the Atmos thruster will stop working.

+
Turn OFF the Atmos thrusters once in space and turn ON all Hydro thrusters, not too much so you can have time to go to a Rich ore spot.

+
Go to the Moon as fast as possible, because all ores can be found over there and you will be able to build better ships, well the best ships of the game use Reactor with Uranium as power.

I will add :

It's possible to make a "Ice fueled" setup to run the Hydro thrusters so no Hydro tank but a minimum of 6 O2/H2 Gens full of ice will be needed. with just 2 Hydro thruster on all side not enough to fly on planet but will do the Job once in space / no Gravity.

+

It will take 15 mintutes to go to the Moon If you exit the Planet Gravity with the Moon right above you (12 o'clock).

Yeah I get that I can take that approach, but it's not my thing. I have to build an actual ship :).

The ones I have are Nuclear so the "last stage"/"goal" that is when we are Rich and able to build Reactors so made when starting at a Rich ore spot in space ;)

I build very cheap ships first that I grind when I am Rich and use their parts to build better Nuclear ships.

For example, I use one Drill block ship first and will build a better Mining ship once I am Rich :

Try my "Ice fueled" / Nuclear ship all thrusters for planets and space, you may try to see how I made it in a testing world set creative mode cause like I said
-> it is buildable very early when starting at the Moon Rich ore spot.

Edit = I build it at 30km of the Moon where there is a complete sphere of Uranium above the Rich ore spot.

Aye mate I got one for that I made, it's a one person/ one seater, nothing too intense, will get you into space to check out the scene, it uses a tiny a bit of atmospheric thrusters for taking off/landing, and then hydrogen thrusters for space travel, the only thing is you want a method of loading hydrogen into it and recharging it's batts. It's connector on it belly/underside, I don't have it published yet, but I can make it happen, it also has an extra piece you can choose to make and bring with you into space via connector that I call a refueling modual, gives you access to more hydrogen fuel for even more space travel

You surely have a Atmos ship where you can add a few Hydro thrusters on it !?

I have one you may modify, it's a planet respawn ship using Batteries :

You will be able build Nuclear ships once in space, well exploring the Moon and asteroids around it.
Try mine, I always build something like this early in the game. Uses basic materials only (up to Cobalt):

There is a spot right above the cockpit where you can attach a small nuclear reactor for easy power recharges. But that is a more advanced item, requiring silver, and (duh) Uranium.

It ain't purdy but it looks like it might do the trick. :). Will the hydro thrusters get it off the earth-like starter world?

In other news I went back to that outpost I had located and indeed it is the trading post, and I was able to pick up some contracts, so I will play around with that aspect of the game and maybe buy a ship, we'll see.

This was actually one of the ships I tried to build and had to bail on because I don't have any platinum :). Saved the BP for later tho.
