And don't forget, it needs to be powered. So, have a solar panel ready to go. : /
if you're worried about landing gear gliding in multi, create large landing gear on station block then attach small rotor head on top. that should let you build a large, small ship with less worry of landing gears tearing off.
the alternative is to just place a projector on a small ship that is similar in size to the one you'll be building, that removes all the problems with exploding rotors and landing gear.
Joining by connector is pretty easy, and once it's joined you don't have to worry about keeping the projector powered (like you would with landing gear).
The drawback (which is only really a drawback when you start getting into the area of automated assembly lines) is that you'll "never" align it perfectly with the grid of the large ship or station it's mounted on.
Joining by rotor is a little more difficult, but if you check out the update video for the 1.057 update, it should tell you how to get a small rotor head attached to a large rotor base (if you don't already know).
The rotor is a little more precise than the connector, since you can make sure that it's aligned with the ship grid its on. You've also got the ability to rotate the projection mid-build if you need.
The rotor should also be more stable than connector or landing gear, however given the early access nature of the game "stable" is a relative word.
They are different sizes.
With welder being feed parts from stores it's easy.
:-D
Posted a pic.
I have one of these:

It's not working completely perfectly yet, (there are some minor clipping issues that are occuring during the welding process) but it's working. (And it's really cool to see in action)
before I realized that apparently landing gears dont count as "touching an existing block" :o
LOL I made suggestion they do so on Keen's SE forum yesterday.
