Sequencing lights
I'd like to have a string of lights light up, one after another, much like a runway landing lights do.

Any ideas how to go about this?

Yep, timer block will do this no problem but u'll need one for each light I believe. So, if space isn't an issue then problem solved. If space is an issue I'm pretty sure u could do it with one programming block.

This can be archieved via the light Blink setting. The "later" lights have a higehr offset.
There is no need to use programming or timer blocks for this, as this ability has been worked into the Lights themself a long time ago:

I stand corrected

Thank you! That video did the trick. Not only do I now have a rabbit run of lights, but also a sensor tied to the hangar bay door which automatically opens the door. I had been using a remote control to open the door, but this way is far better.

How can I make blinking lights that are active ONLY when doors are opening/closing ?
That would require a few timer blocks. Have the sensor trigger a timer block that opens the doors, flips on the lights, and starts another timer that turns off the lights.

Thanks :) That requires 2 sensors and 1 timer block actually to function properly. With 1 sensor and 1 or 2 timer blocks nothing seems to work :/

Why use one color when you can have many? http://i.imgur.com/5bluhUM.gifv :p

So yeah, there are many possibilities :-)
