Oxygen Generator on small ships
Can you have the Oxygen Generator attached right behind the cockpit and be fine, or do you need the tank attached as well?

Nope - the oxygen generator will use ice to produce oxygen at the rate the player sitting in the cockpit is using it.

Ok, so essentially, I just need to attach a conveyor system up to the generator, and I'd be good on oxygen in the ship?

Aye, that's correct. I used this same trick on one of my mining rigs. Feel free to poke at it, see how it's set up:

don't need any convayors to make it work actually. you can just connect it directly to one of the back two inventory ports and it will be fine.

Or the big one on the bottom like mine. Either way would work just fine.

for small ships, you can have the tank, the generator, or a container with several filled oxygen bottles in it. They all work as far as refilling the cockpit, and you only need one.

by far the easiest way is make a couple extra oxygen bottles at your assembler and transfer them to and from your oxygen generator - when you dock with a connector the generator should also pull the empty bottles to refill them, you you just grab one bottle for every 5 minutes you plan to be away and you should be good to go :D
