Some people have different ideas of fun, some people like spawning and ramming, others like building up to something meaningful..
One thing I've learned is; The lower the quality of an individual, the more simplistic the entertainment sought will be... Hence the boom of reality TV, heyo! Thanks a bunch public educational system!
Does the creative process of the destructive device mean any less that the creative process of the "build something meaningful"? The evolution of mankind has been propelled significantly by a destructive thing called war.
See no one is gonna actually die in reality playing this game, so destruction is trivial. The evoution of the game is very dynamic.
At this point in the game's life do we really label everyone that doesn't play a certain way, scum of the earth? It would be different if the destructive attribues of this game weren't pomoted....
The minute you go into the interwebs with your game, you're part of the PVP system, and unless you set up your game so people can't grief, you're very much part of the grief system as anyone who joins your game.. Many games, the very definition of griefing is the sole intent of the game. Is it griefing when send calvary to kill berry pickers in age of empires? of course not....
What about pvp servers in Everquest back in the day? Players were PK'rs (player killers) In other words they were people that labeled PK because they would go around killing people that just wanted to level up, and those players got furious that they were killed by another player when they "weren't ready". PVP servers have evolved alot since those days. Though you still have a few that simply don't grasp what PVP is.... I was anti-pk, I spent most all of my time hunting players that were hunting players heh
If i played mutiplayer SE, i'd be the same, If a few guys started attacking someone on the server, I'd be right to thier defense. The satisfaction of "griefing a griefer" is fun to me.... as fun as "building something meaningful" It's the heart and soul of pvp. And it will change how the game is developed. This game has enormous potential, from a single player, multiplayer and pvp standpoint.
I completely understand what some are saying, but all this stuff about a different environment etc, no. Yes it's virtual, no this shouldn't alter behaviour. I realise it does, generally because there isn't any comeback, no laws broken, etc. But your still destroying someones time and effort.
With SE, you could put across that people may not know what the game is for - i.e. building sandbox. Some might not really look, and see the weapons and attack.
I'd like not to beleive I am a better person from the majority, this wouldn't leave me with much of an opinion of the gaming community. But going into a server I wouldn't just destroy someones stuff.
"the surest route to reducing crime, it has been assumed, is to focus on the offender or potential offender. Most textbook studies of crime control therefore distinguished only between two broad kinds of measures, formal [law&justice] and informal social control [education&norms]. whether formal or informal, these controls are exclusively focused upon offenders, actual or potential"
however....
"the commission of a crime requires not merely the existence of a motivated offender, but, as every detective story reader knows, it also requires the opportunity for crime... it also requires the availability of a suitable target and the absence of a capable guardian. Thus, crime cannot be explained simply by explaining criminal dispositions. it also has to be shown how such dispositions interact with situational factors favoring crime to produce a criminal act"
people underestimate environmental/situational impacts:
"The Right especially in America, sees situational prevention as an irrelevant response, because it neglects issues of moral culpability and punishment... Liberals assert that by "tinkering" with symptoms it diverts attention from the need to tackle "root causes" of crime such as unemployment, racial discrimination... "
as you can see from this interesting article, "situational" prevention methods are often underestimated even in formal criminology and society at large, they mostly remain a skill that shopkeepers, factory managers, and people with the practical problem of reducing crime know well. it is a science of designing, or "engineering" what the author calls "routine precautions".. and BECAUSE of this it seems like space engineers is a perfect setting to play with the concept. Why solve the issue in a boring way when you could actually use the elements of the game and invent new ones... theres huge potential for constructive gameplay thanks to this "problem" no matter how depraved the motivations of the 'purpetrators
also heres a diagram of some situational crime prevention methods.. http://prntscr.com/4w2ehk
you could imagine some objects or mods that could be added to the game and ways of building and organizing bases that could follow some of these. the goals of the measures are: "increasing perceived effort", "increasing perceived risks", "reducing anticipated rewards", "removing excuses". of course you don't HAVE to play this way but I think its quite an interesting proposition.
that means you two "noquater" and "maverick" lol
obvious griefers lol
oh, and this post is more of a griefer trap then an experiment, as it has drawn out all the griefers who felt offended to try and defend their ways.
the OP did us all a great service exposing these griefers.
Remember their names, as they will most definetly lie and say they are not griefers, but a quick look at their comments will expose their true beliefs.
simply put, they blame the victim, a classic sign of a sociopath.
I've been online gaming since there was an online, and not once have I ever griefed anyone, not even to try it out.... i've stopped probably 1000s of so called griefers in one game or another.
So your "obvious" needs a hell of alot of work....lol
lol a likely story, like i said, griefers lie.
you can say you have done all kinds of great works, but for all we know its just talk.
what we do know though, is that your defending griefing with maverick.
you can keep trying to back peddle all you want, doesnt change the fact you have been black listed, and most likely from more servers then just mine, lol.
I have nothing to back peddle about, it's not my fault you can't understand heh
honestly it wouldnt matter if you joined, you would hit the mines lol, anyone who doesnt know where to go will hit the mines lol
ive had griefers aleady, so i mined everything lol
I promise I won't lose an ounce of sleep not playing on your server.... do some of you guys honestly think the universe revolves around you and are all knowing? heh, kinda sad really don't know I'm making fun of it
your really dont understand the concept of ownership do you?
again another sign of a griefer, dosnt understand ownership

Really, I mean really? you really don't see what i'm saying do you? by the way, my questions were rhetorical and sacarstic.... the fact you went down a whole nother path, well, i'm done with you. think what you want, blacklist away ;P I got no problem with anyone else in this debate(but they can feel free to blacklist away too, heh), but you're just so out of it...
