Possible workshop virus/spam thing
so i removed all my space engineer games and i downloaded two add-ons, when playing space engineers after a couple of mins a warning popper up and covered my whole screen saying windows product key needs to be renewed, and basically i had the choice of doing what was instructed or all my data will be removed upon next reboot. luckily that didnt happen, but this occured during space engineers and after downloading these two mods from steam workshop. P.S i have not downloaded or got anything from the internet to cause this this is simething to do with steam.

MWI - Weapon Collection (DX11) this is th other. Im not sure if its related to it but it happened after downloading these im doing a virus scan as we speak

I've had a look at the content of both mods, and neither of them have scripts.
They are purely models, textures and audio.

And the MWI Weapon Collection is huge! 277Mb to download. It has lots of 2K textures for the DX11.

Your virus isn't related to either of these mods, I have them and have had no issues. The error message you're recieving seems very specific, and if you can copy and paste the exact message into google it'll give you a good idea of what virus you have and what to do to remove it.
I have Hammerman's DX11 Dec Pack and have had no such issue. I suggest you run a deep virus scan and malware cleaner, sorry to say but it sounds like there is something else going on here. As in the infection must have come from an outside source. Are you positive you haven't downloaded anything, especially from strange links?

On the internet, everything is a strange link.

first things first, WINDOWS is a virus.... nuff said on that subject

second... its so easy for a computer to get infected its rediculas... for some people its as easy and commen as going to the bathroom.... even just having the computer hooked to the net is enough, you dont have to be browsing at all....

third.. its good you brought this to our attention, and while the mods turned out safe, we dont need any crap on steam...or our mods... SE is problematic enough even on a good day...

oh guys i found out what it was it coincided with me downloading the steam mods it was my friends skype being hacked. a link was sent that gave a virus to all our pc's thank god i got rid of it!

Not in this day and age, it isn't - your computer is most likely connected to the internet via an ADSL modem/router, which by default will reject all incoming connections. There is no way to get onto your computer unless you set up port forwarding or initiate the connection.

Which is a fallacy.
As there are several models of DSL modems that have been successfully hijacked remotely.
In addition to entry through the wifi on your router from neighbours or people passing on the street.

Whilst the chances of a person having their individual modem/router attacked by a hacker is small, you are never completely safe when you have any sort of internet or wireless connection.

This is, of course, predicated on the idea that you've somehow become a target in the first place. This sort of fear mongering in the kind of thing I'd expect to find in a Fox News headline, guys. =/

And now back to BOB, our resident Fox News Anchor....

Guys, please take note that anything uploaded to steam is ran through their own antivirus before it gets uploaded. If they let a virus get through they'd be forced to pay for damages.
