is there something wrong with assemblers?
before you even ask yes i have ownership set (on all components and machines), its not set to cooperative mode, and i do have the the appropriate materials to construct components. i do however have a few mods running, nothing over the top and the mod count is under 20 (haven't actually counted yet)

so all of my sorters and refineries are pulling ore from the mining ship and processing just fine, the sorters are dumping all the ingots into the buffer container that feeds the assembler. now when i go to actually assemble parts all parts and components appear in red and the assembler reports that i don't have the materials to build anything, even when placing materials manually into the assembler. i tested multiple times by trying to build just simple steel plates, still the assember it saying there is no materials available to use.

this is increasingly getting more frustrating as i really do not want to start all over again. also off topic a little, is there no way to use sorters to drain oxy bottles into a container?

any help is greatly appreciated, keep in mind that i'm not new at this so i have gone through the steps to ensure that i was doing things correctly. although i may have missed something trivial that i've forgotton about.

actually the only reason i noticed this is that i needed 2 steel plates to repair a bit of armor, but as i said i have more than enough materials to build with and even manually placing the materials into the assembler isn't working. i'll take a screenshot to show you what i'm talking about, although i was very clear in the OP explaining what the issue was.

and lack of materials isn't the issue, its the fact that my assemblers aren't recognizing that there is any material to be used at all.

assembler ignoring ingots in its inventory

so you see i don't know what the problem is, i should be able to construct a simple damn steel plate.

craftagent51 You have the wrong assembler selected on production screen compared to where you dropped the ingots. Click the drop down list about the recipes on the left of the production tab and select the assembler you put the ingots in which would be Assembler 13.
To them not pulling from cargo do you have a sorter inbetween the cargo and assemblers? Only thing I could think that would stop them from pulling unless have a script running that effects them or using conveyors turned off, or a conveyor hook up wrong (I've done that a few times and not realize it).

And I was just dropping a suggestion while I'm waiting for bank files to process. I'm under no obligation to investigate your problem nor to provide a definitive solution.

As Aerukath stated, your screenshot does not show the assembler into which you put the iron ingots. The last screenshot does not show any iron in the working inventory, therefore, it will not construct any steel plates.

Also, check for inventory sorting mods and try disabling them. I've had issues with them before.*

*But, as I've stated, I'm under no obligation to provide any concise details, as I'm working right now.

Good luck!

My appologies MinionJoe i didn't mean to sound so rude, i do appreciate any help.

you know looking at that last pic, i think you are absolutely correct, i definitely have the wrong assembler selected. well serves me right for think that the assembler i access wouldn't be the assembler that the system automatically chooses for me. but even that aside why aren't any of my assemblers registering that there is any materials in the container to begin with, that is actually what the main problem was. i don't know but its very frustrating.

oh and thanks MinionJoe for pointing out that trivial little tidbit from my pic :)

I've been seeing a few anomalies myself, but since one of my worlds has alot of assemblers, I haven't been able to test carefully. For example, I set an assembler to 0 inventory (no ingots). If you go to the production tab for that Assembler, it highlights certain components as being able to be produced (there is ingots available) but of course it cannot. So the icons show highlighted but should not be.

But it could be that it is highlighting it because there is ingots elsewhere in the chain (conveyor tubes, conveyors).

this is exactly what i'm saying STORM, i do have ingots available but not one of my assemblers is recognizing this fact, my conveyor system is working because my refineries are processing, and my sorters are dumping the ingots in the buffer container. the assemblers are simply ignoring the materials for some reason. i might just grind the conveyors to the assemblers and rebuild.

I know you must have checked, re checked and double checked your conveyor system but sounds like it has something to do with that. Either some of your assemblers are not lined up port to port with one another, or you are missing a tube or two somewhere. I have a 25 assembler set going and it works just fine. I don't have any sorters at any stage though... do you have any sorters between the storage containers and the assemblers?

Ok so First off I'm a noob. I have had the game for 3 days now. For some reason I wasn't happy with a single assembler so I put 5 of them in a row which worked perfectly to produce faster. Then I figured out there are upgrades for the assemblers which make them produce faster and you can put 4 on each assembler if you set them up right. These are called (productivity module). So the way I did it was to put a conveyor down, put an assembler on top of that, put productivity modules on all 4 sides, and run my conveyor from my ingot storage container in to the bottom and out the top. From there the top pipes over to go in the top of the next assembler set up the same way. From there out the bottom of it into the bottom of the next and the whole ting is repeated for as many assemblers as you want. Me I stopped with 12. After which the last assemblers exiting conveyor is routed through a conveyor sorter which "drain all" the construction components, hand tools, and ammo, and then into my large storage container dedicated to production items. I was extremely careful the way I had everything routed and when I was all done I even painted it. Then came the test. For some reason I could put ingots into an assembler and build from it then but it would NOT draw the ingot in by itself automatically as needed for construction. Sounds like the problem you are having. I tore the first assembler down from the whole array of them and isolated it. Still it wouldn't draw them in. I tried routing the conveyor in different access ports thinking maybe there is an in and an out. Still nothing would work to draw them in. Again it would build if I put them in manually but that defeats the purpose doesn't it. (extra details for others who are having this problem). So the solution..

I was comparing the settings (access any assembler by approaching a door, when it is highlighted hit "K", then click the "control panel" tab at the top) in detail between my initial setup of 5 assemblers and my new one of 9 and everything was exactly identical between them. EXCEPT>! On the right column which I had since ignored because I was playing a solo game I noticed that the "Owner:" said "NOBODY". How can this be? I built it. There was no one else here. So I hit the "Transfer to:" and selected ofc "ME". Now it works perfectly! At least that one does. I still have to go around and do it to the other 11.

So why didn't I own it? I will have to experiment but I'm almost positive it is because I had build a ship for welding. I placed the assemblers in my space suit but then I went around and welded them all up with my little welding ship. Now I remember from watching a piracy video that if you grind an object down below the red line and then rebuild it with the welder then you take ownership of it. So I imagine its the same thing here. The "ship" welded these assemblers above the red line and so it would have been the owner? Except that a ship can't own it and so it isn't assigned to anyone. Personally I hope that this is changed in a patch at some point so that the pilot of a ship is given ownership of anything it constructs but there may be more aspects of the game that I am not aware of that would prevent that from working. Like ships with more than one person in them or something like that.

Hope this helps you or any others with the same problem. If I get around to it I'll put up a video explaining this.

BTW, if you do end up having a problem with assemblers not pulling, (TL,DR [all of it]) Just destroy and replace a conveyor tube leading to the assemblers. worked the first time i tryed it.

did you happen to take a look at the date on this thread? its long been dead
