and lack of materials isn't the issue, its the fact that my assemblers aren't recognizing that there is any material to be used at all.

so you see i don't know what the problem is, i should be able to construct a simple damn steel plate.
To them not pulling from cargo do you have a sorter inbetween the cargo and assemblers? Only thing I could think that would stop them from pulling unless have a script running that effects them or using conveyors turned off, or a conveyor hook up wrong (I've done that a few times and not realize it).
My appologies MinionJoe i didn't mean to sound so rude, i do appreciate any help.
oh and thanks MinionJoe for pointing out that trivial little tidbit from my pic :)
But it could be that it is highlighting it because there is ingots elsewhere in the chain (conveyor tubes, conveyors).
I was comparing the settings (access any assembler by approaching a door, when it is highlighted hit "K", then click the "control panel" tab at the top) in detail between my initial setup of 5 assemblers and my new one of 9 and everything was exactly identical between them. EXCEPT>! On the right column which I had since ignored because I was playing a solo game I noticed that the "Owner:" said "NOBODY". How can this be? I built it. There was no one else here. So I hit the "Transfer to:" and selected ofc "ME". Now it works perfectly! At least that one does. I still have to go around and do it to the other 11.
So why didn't I own it? I will have to experiment but I'm almost positive it is because I had build a ship for welding. I placed the assemblers in my space suit but then I went around and welded them all up with my little welding ship. Now I remember from watching a piracy video that if you grind an object down below the red line and then rebuild it with the welder then you take ownership of it. So I imagine its the same thing here. The "ship" welded these assemblers above the red line and so it would have been the owner? Except that a ship can't own it and so it isn't assigned to anyone. Personally I hope that this is changed in a patch at some point so that the pilot of a ship is given ownership of anything it constructs but there may be more aspects of the game that I am not aware of that would prevent that from working. Like ships with more than one person in them or something like that.
Hope this helps you or any others with the same problem. If I get around to it I'll put up a video explaining this.
