How to make sure your respawn / rescue ship doesn't get removed / deleted / despawned?
I've been wondering this for a while: if the "Delete Respawn Ships" option is turned on, how does the game identify the respawn ship in order to remove it? The reason I ask is that I want to know - what is the minimum amount of work I need to do to make the respawn ship not despawn?

I already know that if you can merge the ship with a station, it will become a "new"(?) ship... but in survival this requires a lot of material to build a power source (reactor or solar panel) when you're just starting out. I also know you can grind it entirely down and rebuild it, but that's a lot of work. I've tried renaming the ship, grinding/rebuilding the control seat, but my ship is still gone when I log back in.

Anything you've tried?

you dont need build reactor only create new station 1 block and merge block so its easy only grind some for respawn ship ( gravity generator good source for materials) and you can build those...you can even change it back to ship after mergin and continue flying, it wont dissapear... it took like 5min to do this...

The merge block doesn't need power to work, you can cannibalize most of the parts you need out of the spawn ship's door.

How the game does it is simple, there is a flag "save" that can be applied to ships, it's simply set to false. Not sure if that is the exact one used for respawn ships, but you get the general idea.

Build new things on it. I have made it a bit wider, added a second refinery, 2 arc furnaces, loads of thrusters, reactors, and it is still in game. I think as soon as you build something on it it will become yours. Also don`t know if it is makes any difference but change the ownership to you on all the parts maybe?

I've experimented with both those ideas and neither worked for me.

I always thought the merge block needed power! That's good to know. I'll try this out.

And your explanation of the "save" flag is helpful. I assume that if you saw your ship in half, then both halves become seaprate ships and both still have the "save" flag?

I had the same issue. Took me days to realize that a merge block was the only way. Once merged into a station you can convert to a ship again safely.
But what about small ships! how do you save those!

For anyone wondering how to do this by editing the xml (save file) instead, search for "IsRespawnGrid" and change it from true to false
you cant use merge blocks on small ships thats why i ask, but the merge blocks WILL work for large block ships.

You can use merge blocks from small ships to small ships Skullfield. Just build another small ship base, even if it's just a landing gear and merge block, then merge the ship to it, and it should reset it.
