Once i try to acces a ai ship that i capured i get acces denied, is there a way to bypass this without drinding everything up?

Yep, you need to grind it down below the blue line, then weld it back, and it'll be yours.

yeah, but that only lets you cntrol the ship, isnt there a way to control the systems too?
i get acces denied on all of those too,or do i need to grind everything?

Yeah, unfortunately that's the only way to do it legitimately. Gotta grind each functional block that you want.

Alternatively, you can capture your ship, exit the world, edit the settings, tick "reset ownership" and load up again. Everything in the game will be owned by "nobody" and you can assign it to yourself. Just be wary of turrets! They'll fire on anything that they don't share ownership with.

You need to grind everything. Sometimes I just grind down the reactors and control console so I can fly/power it down. Fly it home to dismantle properly. Word of warning though, base defences will attack it.

In order to fly the ship all you need is systems access or the cockpit/chair. You can then access the control panel, enable inertial stabs and control thrusters. When I cap a ship that's the first thing I do is find that and enable the stabs to stop it in its tracks. Then I can take my time. But the idea is that you need to dismantle ships systems until the computers are removed, then reassemble them to gain control. I'm not sure the blue line you need to grind it to is the computer component part for every system block that requires hacking however. I'm not sure it can be done in too much of a better way either. X:R tried to use minigames and people hated them for it. But if you just let people initiate an automated process from any access point on the ship then the capping process and "hacking" doesn't really mean anything.

well thanks anyway (thumbs up)

If the ship in question has a cockpit or control flight seat somewhere inside, if you can get to the thing and grind it down to remove the computers then rebuild it, you can then use the cockpit to swap ownership of the rest of the parts in most cases.

wow thanks il give it a try :)

Something I forgot to mention is that for AI ships floating, most of their parts will not have any owner associated with them. But in some cases some parts have an owner attatched to them like "NPC (Dead)". You'll be able to see this though if you can access a control panel of some kind on the ship. For those parts that have the npc as owner you'll need to grind those down to gain access.

sorry to dig up an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one. i'm still confused about hacking/taking over an enemy ship. say i get inside and make my way to the cockpit. i grind it down then build it back up. i can now control the thrusters and thats. what if the ship has 100 turrets all over it and they are just hacking away at the ship i came in? do i seriously have to grind every single turret? it should seem that if i capture the ship, i can access every system and change ownership. is that not the case?

is there no way to turn off the turrets? seems like the real goal in a ship is to go destroy the reactors and batteries, or else all 100 of the turrets will never stop firing at me and my ship. if there are 100 turrets, the amount of time it would take to sneak up on each one to grind it down is ludacris. maybe i'm missing something...?

thanks for any help!

Yes at this time you'll have to grind down every single turret. But something to make it easier might be to park the ship somewere and hack the reactor, turn the ship off and you'll have an easier time of it.

You would have to get into a cockpit, turn on the dampeners, then power it down after it stops moving and grind down every turret (leave them ground down or rebuild them from the blue line to give you ownership, that is up to you), and be sure to get all of them. Then it is safe to power up and take it back home for grinding up for parts or refitting/hacking for use.

Oh yeah and hack the reactors too, like Foodoman said.

:)

thanks for the replies guys. good to know i'm not missing anything. im not sure i have the patience required for all that tedium :)

maybe a new feature in the future to aid in large-scale hacking? cheers

I haven't tried it but you could try killing all power sources active on the ship by sitting in the cockpit and hitting Y if it has turrets trying to shoot you. That might override the reactors even if they don't belong to you. I think it even disables solar panels.
