Show me your utility ships!
I want to see your utility ships/cars. Miners, cargo ships, etc. of any size, I want to see them! Pictures are cool, and workshop files are cooler.

Here's some of my ships if you're interested:

The Hubris, an exploration/cargo ship:

First file are my modular utility ships.
The Paladin chassis started it's Life as "The Sidewinder" drilling ship I needed a cargo hauler since I was tired of making trips back to base to offload. I couldn't get a chassis design I liked and then merge blocks came out in an update.

I don't have images for it, but the sidewinder was the paladin chassis and the drill head in 1 ship. I cut the front end off, added merge blocks, and removed 1 of the ejectors, changed the hull lines slightly to prevent permanent grafting from a merge.

Built in Survival: Paladin and all three heads ( drill - cargo - wilder / grinder ). This ship hails from a time when connectors only spit stuff out, and collectors had to be used to catch it.
The Paldin chassis has all but been retired and is kept around for nostalgia.

Built in Survival, The Roughneck with drill, cargo, and multitool heads. Grinder, welder, and grappler head were built in creative for the workshop upload. This chassis was created when KSH upgraded the tube networks, conveyers and connectors to fully functional.
I was alway disappointed with the belly connections though. This chassis has been around for quite awhile and has been my go to platform. If KSH had rolled out the non magnetic when turned off connector patch a few hours earlier the Big Boy would probably never came into existance. Also the orginal chassis didnt have piston landing gear as steam mod integration wasn't available for the majority of it's time.

Enter the connector redesign patch. I'm not sure i can adequately describe my frustration with this patch but i'll try. I was really friggin urinated off. Thank you swear filter. I was fed up blowing the heck out of connectors to get off the dock. SO I added in the small landing gear mod and some pistons thinking they would push the chassis off the connector and i could reverse them and fly away. I THOUGHT WRONG! The pistons pushed all right. They pushed the landing gear all the way through the heavy plate floor! Elapsed time perhaps 2 hours after patch. I evaluated the rtractable landing gear and found i like dit, so the cargo and multitool heads were retrofitted. Now i no longer needed an open gear on my station to drop them off, I can leave theem wherever it's convenint. With that consideration, a small reactor cnnected internally and an antenna got added to each head. Also I'd like to point out it wsan't just the connector issues pulling me underwater, I was experienceing the thrust implosion love also during this time.

Thoroughly defeated and dejected i grabbed a cat nap. No I don't keep bankers hours.

Awakened, refreshed and refueled I set to conquring the connectors.

Options, top - sides - back. hmmmm. top and sides are going to have the same lack of thrust issue and the back, well thats just not possable, the chassis is in the way.hmmm. what about a connector beside a merge block connect the tube network to the chassis and pass through to the rear. With large thrusters reward it HAS to be enough to pull off the dock right? Right?

I notice Steam patching SE again. hmmm post patch patch is early. oh well, got problems to solve.

Load my small ship repository file, grab a copy of roughneck and its heads. Small ship repository has each chassis and all of its heads attached by scaffold and merges so chassis and all heads can be moved as 1 unit.

OK, new world, reference available, lets "git 'er done.".
Several hours later the chassis is completed and i take it for test spin. not too bad. Seems a bit over....BOOM..BOOM...BOOM BOOM .powered. Yay for thruster love! The entire nacelle on both sides desintegrated. hmmmmm....hmmmm. What the heck. modular nacelles too. Cut off the scrap metal and redesigned. Man, this thing is big. And thats how it was named.

Job well done. Lets hit the forums..... WTF turning connectors off disables magnetism now???? Really??? Seroiusly??? After about 3 minutes of swearing at myself for not checking the forums earlier i just say oh well. Maybe someday Ill have a use for it.

A few days later... Hey why don't we arrange the heads and chassis like they were on showroom floor and put it on the workshop. Why? ..... Why Not? Well cause everyone has their own design. Oh shut up and do it. I already know you're going to. So stop whining and get it done.

And a few days after that, here we are.

No I don't suffer from multiple personalities but yes this is how my thought streams evolve.
will edit shortly after grabbing some more screenies.

Got em

And lastly my mining arm. it's not an orgional idea but highly effective.
( this is in a survival world and was created legitimately )

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=315452821

can add a new station block below existing one then grind down merge and 1st station while the arm is mining. When done. stop rotation, fly to reactor open control and convert to ship. fly down untill remerged. start rotation. It has the potential to eat asteroids for breakfast lunch a light snack and then dinner.

Damn. Hello wall of text. and I totally forgot to say anything about the second file :(

2nd file. The moslty yellow ship on the left doesnt even belong there, i don't remember why it was and I can't remember why i didn't bother to remove it before uploading but. its just a cargo hauler small ship connected to 6 large ship large cargos in the center of it. Used for drill arm above.

The ship on the right is quite similar. 6 LG ship LG cargos surrounded by a small ship frame ( skiff ). The cargos are detachable and the skiff can grab an empty set and head back out while the station processes the first shipment. The control area of the skiff is acually thie Gimp from above but with a merge block and hull lines slightly changed.

These 2 ships are older than dirt and have been retired into obscurity without even have earned a name.

i build for functinality not design .

I figured out that a miner must have 4 tons of waight for every driller you add .
elseway the miner will not stay where it is when you activate the drillers.

This is my basic Grinding Tug. Ive made it very small so it can zip around my space dock. I also built it this way to be very precise.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=315581195

For building projects I use a small welding ship that is built to fit into a small gap so I can weld hard to reach areas. It also has a collector for getting parts and a connector for transfers.

And lastly this is my mining rig

Forgot to mention:

Uses dragon maneuvering thrusters, and the godzilla fusion reactor mod. Build in survival, the reactors are overkill, but I prefer symetry, so there are two, one on either side of the central conveyor column. The column extends out the front, and is what the drills are mounted to. I had to add extra blocks to the end to mount the drills, then once they were in place, went back in and ground them out. Inside the back end in a medium cargo container, and as you can see it has connectors mounted on both sides with a camera to you can see when docking. It is a remotely piloted vehicle, and so it can be made more compact. Works really really well, and chews through ore like nobodies business.

My mining tunneller :

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=312531552
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=312531567

9 drills, 8 medium cargo containers and a gravity drive.
Was a little bit more of a pain to set up than a large ship because of the gravity drive. On a large ship you can turn off the inertial dampeners when you engage the gravity generator and off you go. Because the small ship has a relatively low mass the drills throw me about too much so I have the forward facing thrusters on a block save. When I want to go auto mode I can just disable the thruster block while still keeping the other thrusters on for stability.

Scout Squadron Division.

Night Owl Mining & Engineering Corp.
We produce these wonderfully utilitarian work ships. The SUC Model (Scout-Utility-Cargo) is extremely versitile and resiliant in what they can do. They are basicly a 3/4-ton pickup truck in space. Versions can be customized with many different merge clamps, cameras, remote control (Drone option), lights, antenna, passenger seats (for transport or Drone control), ore detectors, sensors, etc.
Armed versions vary from two gatling guns in the wing nacelles to a full escort Gunship version (SUG) with missiles, ammo storage, and easily upto 6 gatling guns.

This ship is setup as a Starter Spawn Ship, which comes equiped with;
1. Welder Pod mounted on the spine of the SUC with all the materials to build an outpost-type station. The Welder Pod contains parts for the following; reactor, gravity, refinery, assembler, medical bay, station connector, and enough steel to build a fair station to inclose all of that.
2. Workbee Mk.2 - with merge clamps on the front and back and small merge clamps under the belly to grab smaller items.
3. Drill attachment for Workbee Mk.2 - one drill attachment allows you to quickly start mining whatever is needed to expand the basic outpost station. Additional Drills can quickly be added on to the sids of the existing drill as the mining needs quickly expand.
4. Two probe markers - These compact probes are usefule to mark points of interest. Two are provived with each SUC. One can quickly mark the home station until an Antenna or Beacon can be built. The second probe can be dropped at another astroid of interest for mining materials.
Each Probe has a beacon, an antenna, two strobe lights, small reactor, and a gyroscope for balancing the probe if dropped in space allowing easier retrival by a SUC.

Standard Compliment for a NOM-E Scout Mining Squadron:
1x SUC Starter-A1 (Carrying basic station materials, Workbee Mk2, Welder Pod, & 2x Probes). NoteL For longer interstellar flights locking blocks (red and blue) have been welded on to secure the Drill, Welder Pod, & Probes to the SUC's hull. These must be ground away to allow the Merge Clamps to release when desired. Workbee may be detached at any time.

1x SUC Starter-B1 (Carries two Cargo Pods (with connectors) full of enviromental support materials, air, food, water, MRE's, etc.)

1x SUC Starter-C1 (Optional - Carries two XoComp Drones: 1x XoWelder Drone, very small and able to manuver down 1x1 large ship corridors to weld up station structure. 1x XoGrinder Drone for helping cut down temporary structures while building he base.) Note: This will be for people that want everything handed to them immediately upon spawning in.

2x SUG Combat Escort (Gunship Version, 6 guns, 2 rocket launchers. Can be equipt with 1x Combat Drone. - Each Combat Drone has 1 rocket launcher and 4 guns. This allows quick setup of defensive perimeter around the new outpost. SUG's are equipt with Auto-follow function to stay with the SUCs while its pilot remotely operates the defensive drone escorting the Squadron while enroute the outpost location. The SUG's become your manned scouting and defensive force after the base is set up, SUC's take up the supply run roll, Workbee is an excellent starting miner and then can addapt into the manderal roll for building new drones at base with the Welder Pod.)

(As each of these will be set up as Spawn Ships, you can spawn in extra ones of a particular type to help you as needed when new players join your MP world.)
