If your in star system, it's not there either
Moon Base, Mars Planet, Earth Planet, Alien Planet
... and also the "First Jump" scenario
The GPS for it is

Keen wants us to explore, so makes a 'star system' to explore, but then leaves out two key items that would make exploring the star system actually worth it.
This makes no sense...
I didn't know about this, I agree, makes no sense
Keep in mind :
-> There was only premade world from "Original contant" category at the beginning.

May "make no sense" today because way more got added to the game and it is not the same game at all compare to the time they shared a world having monolith.
New players, at that time, were "forced" to use the premade world named "Easy start" and that is where the monolith was.
EDIT
It is where I have tested my first Warships/Fighters especially because there is enemy stations with enemy Drone Spawners in those Easy Start worlds.
There is an hidden "Whale ship" to find in one of the very first worlds of the game and it is still in !
