Thrusters keep destroying landing platforms.
IDK what to do about this. Any time I take of, the platform I'm on gets damaged and it's annoying to always have to repair it. I read somewhere (probably here) that heavy blocks don't take damage from small ship thrusters but this is not the case? I think we need some sort of landing block type unless there's something I'm unaware of?

Trick is to turn off Dampeners (z), then just a quick momentary tap on thruster will get you drifting upwards without damage to platform...

Theoretically wouldn't there be a tiny bit of damage or do you need like a full second or two of constant thrust to cause any damage?
Junkz May 3, 2014 @ 7:30pm
i always land and takeoff with dampeners off - no dmg to blockfrom thrusters at all :)

heavy blocks still take damage, just they can take more of it, so yeah, they're better for landing platforms and stuff. but like stated, easy to turn off dampeners and 'coast' to landing.or nudge away from landing platfor with them off before actually flyign aroudn

yup tap the thrusters with damps off and glide on or off the pad helps, Havent tested it yet but apparently catwalks dont take damage so can be used as a landing pad, but apparently damage bleeds through them to blocks underneath

I think catwalks still take damage, just they don't deform and show it immediately. I usually take off forward, not up, so it's not an issue. That, or if I have to, just bump the thrusters like was mentioned earlier, usually it's not enough to do any significant damage to the platform. I haven't noticed the heavy armor taking damage from small thrusters though.

All block types are damaged by all thruster types. There is no way to make a landing pad better. You have to put your engines that fire down, further up on your ship so they are away from the platform. Distance between platform and thrusters is currently the only cure.

hopefully they will create something immune to thruster damage but basically eveything else treats it like heavy armor.
dorkamongmany May 3, 2014 @ 9:01pm
Or you could just build your thrusters far enough away not to damage the armor.
BRRM May 3, 2014 @ 9:02pm
or they could just add concrete :D
BRRM May 3, 2014 @ 9:02pm
make use of the gravel ;)
Sausage May 4, 2014 @ 3:05am
I land/take off sideways/backward/forward.

I like the gravel idea, for concrete - I has heeeeeeeps of eeeeeet. Only use for it is reactor components atm.

They desperatly need something thruster proof, what with many people putting ships in hangers on stations and large ships.

It doesn't have to be really heavy, it could simply be blocks have very crappy projectile/rocket resistance but are immune to heat.

Design your landing platforms so you can leave them with just going forward/sideways or just leave holes for few thrusters which you use to go up.
Yeah, like Mr B. said, there needs to be something because of hangars and such. With a hangar, taking off without Dampners can be a risky business if the roof is not all that high. Might have to look into what people are saying about keeping the thrusters just at the right distance, for now.
