HELP - Will my laptop specs run this?
Just got myself a new PC, and having been a console gamer most of my life, it seemed like giving Steam a bash a good idea. Interested in Space Engineers, FTL, Half Life 1 etc. It has a 1TB hard drive, so space to store it won't be an issue. RAM won't be either, considering my laptop is packing 8GB of it.

What concerns me is the processor - a 1.8GHZ Intel i3 dual core.

As a test, I bought FTL - which asks for 2GHZ - and although that isn't exactly graphics/power hungry, it runs nicely. I've also downloaded the Euro Truck Simulator 2 demo, as that demands 2.4GHZ, and that runs very well, but in low quality settings. Given that ETS2 is offline, whereas Space Enginners has a multiplayer mode (although in alpha), will my laptop pull off running Space Engineers decently (preferably mid settings), or am I pushing too far? Cheers in advance.

I wouldnt recommend it, it runs with around 12fps on my laptop with an intel b960 pentium duo core 2.2ghz, and 6gb ram, it's unoptomized right now, just wait for it :P

I wouldnt try it tbh your gonna have issues with it after all the minimum says 2 ghz

System requirements

MINIMUM

OS: Microsoft Windows XP (latest SP)

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo 2.0 GHz (or AMD equivalent)

Memory: 2 GB RAM

Graphics*: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT / ATI Radeon HD 3870 / Intel HD Graphics 4000 - (*minimum of 512 MB video memory)

DirectX: 9.0c

Hard Drive: 2 GB free HDD space

Audio: DirectX® compatible on-board

RECOMMENDED

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 (latest SP)

Processor: Intel Quad Core i5 @ 2.5 GHz (or AMD equivalent)

Memory: 3 GB RAM

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460/AMD Radeon HD 7800 series

DirectX: 9.0c

Hard Drive: 5 GB free HDD space

Audio: DirectX® compatible on-board

The way i look at it the minimum spec is what you need to install it and watch a slide show, the recomended is the minimum you need to play it comfortably.

My laptop ran Space Engineers at about 10-20fps, so although it wasn't pretty, it did work to be fair.

You mention everything except your GPU, which plays the most important role in gaming. Great job.

I assumed by 'laptop' you could work out it's integrated, but it's Intel 4000. Nothing spectacular, but it does the job. Besides, this is months old, and if you see my earlier response, I've already had it working.

Of course I could work out it is integrated, but I am not a magician that can work out the GPU manufacturer and model, what is more there are even Laptops that do not have integrated GPUs but that is a different story.

With these specs, your chances of playing Space Engineers smoothly is next to equal to low. Laptops are not meant for gaming in the first place. You are lucky to run the games you mentioned.

Yeah, as previously mentioned, I have had Space Engineers running. Albeit, as previously mentioned, not smoothly at all, but still running nonetheless.
