Meteor defense
EDIT: Now that the turrets are out and working, how effective are you finding it on different llevels of meteor difficulty? Our original base has always been fine as it sits inside an asteroid that is like a HUGE pitted olive, (can fit 2 military escorts in side by side) but now we have moved on to our mining platform which is built kinda like a nuclear aircraft carrier or a barge:

Thats a WIP, and you can see what's left of the shield we tried to make and gave up on. The ship its much more finished in while keeping the utilitarian exposed pipe look to it as a utility mining ship. The conn tower is finished in in glass and moved back a lot as it kept taking thruster damage. And the shield is now a large flat dock and there are torrets all over the sun side of the asteroid, I'll load the game and take a pic of it, for some reason the last set of pics did not save. SO, what do you think, what have you found to be effective against the swarm of doom?

i had to abandon my old base ( that was basking in sunlight) and move all my stuff on a huge ship.. so i could hide in shadows and move from one place to another

what would be cool is if they added an autonomous meteor defense function to the missile turrets when they are activated...so you have the option to enable it, and can exchange missile ammo for meteor damage if you get sick fo repairing your base
The meteorites can already be destroyed by gunfire, I wouldn't be too surprised if the gattling turrets will double up as a meteor defense as well.

The meteors are realy heavy stuff. so if the radar (and factions) will work, it can detect hostile objects (debris meteors, ships, enemies) and use the weapons in range to destroy the threat... hopefully....

Yeah, all you can do is hide in an asteroid or lose your refinery and stuff, (Once I lost the entire back of a ship!).

It woul'd be realistic the army also uses gattling guns to stop incomming missels.
Well I tried 2gs, and nothing. Still putting holes in my dry dock. Its not OVERLY bad, but constantly replacing heavy armor on it can be a ♥♥♥♥♥ to say the least. Or at the very least a repair drone or something. Set it to ONLY repair blocks you place, and allocate it to a cargo container for resources and go. Would be easily destroyed and difficult to build, but get 3 or 4 and you are good on repairs on a sizeable base.

The Surfaces of astroids are Safe. If you are out of Sunlight[can't see the sun, then your safe,even on Armeggedon Mode. Aren't Meteor Showers inter-mittent? Go some place through the Sunlight to someplace in shadows. "Advance to Cover" like infantry tactics !

I remind a video from Last Stand Gamers Arron, where they tried out the "Damage Done By Thrusters" (when the patch came out) and it was a quite useful shield against the Blue Ship, even with highspeed. It was some kind of deflecting the damage even whem some of the thrusters were destroyed, the thruster-damage cut the ship into pieces. maybe it also work for meteors... at least for some time.

@ The Free man : repairblocks would be a good idea, but the problem will probably be that they can only repair damaged areas that are still connected to the lets call it "Repair-Block" and this to a cargo-container (as u already wrote), a assembler and a generator (for constant supplies) i know you said repair DRONE but this if even ever will work when the factions are implied and the AI doesn't screw up as hell (a hinch to the AI of the convoy ships that are either selfdestructing when entered, or flying to eternaty when robed and you unfortunately let it pass after you see that its 79000meters away and still on the "map" so Repair-Blocks" would be a suggestion (think about it, we got the artificial mass block added last update)

Using spiked armor blocks and building a lot of sloped heavy armor helped a LOT we can probably get through a couple of hours on normal with having 2-500 steel plates for repairs on our base ( normal 3x3x3x )

Edit : And its basking in the glorious sunlight.

so as you all may know the new turrets can fend off meteors. so just as in real life the Missile defense systems of the US-Army. But atm i dont know how effective they are. I have now some performance breakdown on my system with the new turrets trying out meteors would probably cause my system to break down ^^ i hope they fix that soon
Yes the turrets are fairly effective, not a single strike on our mining carrier yet and it has 3 on top and 3 on bottom.
