Methods of disarming booby traps on Cargo Ships
Anyone know any methods in survival for disarming booby traps on the Cargo Ships? I have tried taking them apart and looking for warheads and breaking reactors and replacing them in new spots. No luck with those options so far. The only ones I can manage to wrangle are the Buisness Shippments and the Private Sails. Those don't blow up on me.

The warheads are hidden. Make a save, watch them blow, then locate the general area of the explosion, reload the save and look around that area.

Even easier than that, and no "cheating" aspect, incase you care. When you get into the ship, turn off all the small thrusters, if you can point the ship at your base, and accelerate towards it, you have plenty of time at this point while you are flying. Go through and activate each small thruster 1 at a time, and locate it on the outside of hte ship, then label it appropriately. If you turn one on, and cannot find it anywhere on the outside of the ship, that means it's a trap and you should just leave it off. I go through and turn 1 on, find it, then turn it off, label it, and go to the next one. It's easier than trying to remember which were already on and which weren't yet. Takes me less than 2 minutes to disarm most of the ships.
Thank you both. Helps out a ton! I have been trying to use them as salvage insted of mining. Seems to be quicker for supplies.

This game isn't Space Engineers anymore... It's Space Pirates....It's a lot easier to salvage ships. The business one carries at least 10 uranium and has a large nuke on it for power.
I personaly love the direction this game is going. What fun is it to build a ship and have nothing to do with it? The cargo ships act as targets as well as salvage. A group of friends playing together is so glitchy it's hard to fight against each other of group up for team battles. I was playing StarMade before this game and they have a pretty good AI system and sectors of not empty space. I don't think this should be a clone of that game by any means, just not so bland.

As it stands there is no reason to have weapons on your ship if you play singleplayer.

It's an incredibly early access alpha build. To think that they would include those things and not perfect a system around them is a bit of an assumption. You'll see plenty of updates, and get to watch it take shape.

Just give it some time and watch for updates.

It's not piracy. It's reverse engineering
When they enable turrets and build some AI to have the npc ships fight back abit.
THEN It will be piracy
YAAAAAAR!!!

yep, when turrets are enabled (especially internal turrets) it'll be a lot harder to capture them. and even now you still have to mine for some things. especially if you wanna work with windows. you need tons of silicium for them and you can't get it from the AI-ships, at least not in high amounts

and you don't have to use the AI-ships. you even can deactivate them so you HAVE to mine.

If your are only interested in salvaging them, get a large ship with a lot of muscle power (thrusters), lock your ship to the AI ship with landing gears, engage inertial dampeners to stop it, then tow it too your salvage site.

Just be sure to try to lock on near to the center of mass of the target ship.
Otherwise you will have all sorts of issues when trying to manuver your ship.

I think the easiest way to counter any future automatic defense turrets on cargo ships would be to bring the materials you need for a cocpit, and when you get to the target ship place the cocpit on the outside of the ship and turn the turrets off, before entering.

Problem solved!

Eric, the problem is that several of the ships, especially the military ones, have turrets on the outside too. That means when they enable large weapons, it will become a space fight and actually being able to salvage the entire thing is going to be less likely.

im excited for turrets

It most certainly is still space engineers, you build with the pieces you recieve from salvaged ships no?

and, with the faction-stuff, that we probably need before automated weapons will work, it will probably not be possible to place a cockpit on a hostile ship
