How to dock my ship?

I know i know stupid question but im pretty new and didnt figue it out.

when i use my mining ship i want to "dock" on my asteroid plattform but im unable to do so. When i press P nothing will happend. This ship has a docking gear but it seem that i doesnt work.

Can somebody explain how i dock my ship? I need to do so to unload the mining ship.

The landing gear needs to have a yellow light show up on it for it to successfully dock (green light appears.) Either you didn't finish constructing the landing gear or you're not close enough / in position.

Close enough to the plattform or do the plattform need a extra sturctur that i miss to build?

Close enough to the platform. All you need to land is a functional landing gear on your ship and a flat surface for it to connect to.

No im sorry it will not work even if i touch the ground of the flat area the landing gear wont get yellow (i know i need to be inside the ship and press p). The ship i use is the mining ship from the start. Can somebody please explain it bit how to dock?

do you have put the good landing gear?, it you have a big ship and you put landing gear for a small ship on it, i don't know but it's peharp a little thing like this...

Edit : do you have trying on an other platform?, when you have build your platform, do you have choose "new base", or if you have just build block here and there to make a platform?...

be sure to always make "new base" for the first block you put...

It is not a new base it is the starting plattform

Does that ship even have a docking gear on it? Just checking.. Either way docking isn't necessary, if you don't have a docking gear just park the ship close to the refinery and transfer the ores, docking is optional in a zero velocity environment ;).

It is the starter Mining ship that you get when you start on easy.

But maybe i do that wrong do i need 2 gears? So does i need a gear on the plattform and one of the ship?

Finally... i manage to dock. I took me 1 hour to figue that out... i dont know why it isnt working in my first tries. I think maybe because not all gears are on the ground but now i got it.

oke but you don't need all the landing gear to get docked maybe when you wore mining you damage your landing gear just take out your welder and check the parts next time because you atend to sheck when you mine so maybe you hit the landing gear and it got damage to the piont they don't work any more just for your next try

Also, beginning platform is made of light armor, so thruster damage may make it more difficult to land on it, as well.

just make your landing platform out of heavy armor then it wound be disstroyt by your trusters
