You can also find uranium ore on asteroid's surface visually by looking for black patches.
Then g again to get out of that menu and now press 1 ( if it is in position 1)
Get energy: Do uranium in your reactor and if it is off, switch it on (toggle with y)
Or build solar cells and batterys ( if you have e.g. a yellow ship and build your first base)
If you run out of Uranium ingots and have no solar cells and battery then you are dead - no energy - no reffinery
I know then only two options: Old savegame or new start
pressing G brings up the block inventory
pressing I brings up what your character is currently holding
and K s the control menu button which brings up the control menues and inventory menues of what ever grid you are standing on/interacting with this includes the GPS tab, control tab, inventory tab and other tabs that I forget right now.
PS: Uranium is usually barried very deep like 30m deep on average at least from my experience it is usually very deep, so using your default hand drill is probably not the most effecient way to detect it (if you can detect it at all that is ) upgrading to the more advnaced hand drills might provide usefull but I would just make a scout ship with a detector its faster to get around and to tag potential mining areas.
