the "Merge"-block - what all does it 'transport'/transfer? Ammo? Ore? Components?
Hi engineers,
the MERGE-Block, what all does it transfer to another Merge-Block? does it act like a full-blown conveyor, for electrical, ammo, components (all sizes, not just small ones), ores?
does it do that also from a LARGE SHIP/STATION Merge-block to a SMALL SHIP Merge-Block and vice versa?

No it is for connecting two ships to act as one or to turn a platform/station into a ship.

The connector is what you can use to convey goods and ore ect' you can use the marge block to form an airtight docking lock from ship to ship but not to transport goods through.

it transfers nothing except power and control. with a merge-block you can make 1 ship out of two and you control all the thrusters, landing gears etc as if it would be one ship

I'm fairly sure you can merge ships and connectors at the same time to do both.

Yes that was the case until the last update made it not worth merging because the new connector now passes electricity through them and gives you full control over whatever you are connected to, if you use the merge and conveyer system the conveyor fuses together and you can't seperate again without grinding it away.

but how strong is the connector? can you move faste and turn tight or will it rip off?
General Drake Jun 29, 2014 @ 2:58pm
I guess you could merge then leave a space on the connectors and use the throw out function to the other connector..

It is strong enough, i use it and it wobbles a bit but it's never come off.

Then you'd be going back to the old method of using a connector on throw out mode with a collector on the other end. I don't believe that two connectors one block apart are close enough to couple.

hmm, i use a mergeblock for my modules and the connector only for itemtransfer between ships/ship and station. works fine for me :) i don't like that wobbling, in the end that mostly will cause damage
General Drake Jun 29, 2014 @ 3:13pm
I guess I'm left with my issue which is transfering items between different merged parts of the ship without merging the connectors themselves.

Too bad Merge Blocks cause too much damage to large structures. Even with the most careful pilots and crews putting them together. They are too much of a burden over traditional building designs. Granted, if we could get that issue fixed, building larger ships would be a cake walk..

Are you talking about when merging them or when flying them? Because my design will only be used to put them together once and then detach in an emercency situation.

When merging them, however, it seems all they can be used for is emergency detachment. The devs and the community are already aware the damage they cause was unintended. And maybe working to fix this issue in a later update, you can fly them no problem. But no matter the velocity you move these things, they damage components around them and themselves during merge process for large ships/stations.

Ok thats sorta good news. I will place heavy armor around the joints to minimize the damage and then quit hijacking the thread ;)

LOL nah, you're fine - just gave me some tidbit info on top even ;)
