Control similar items all at once.
Hey,

I'm new and I really like the game but saddly one of the parts I like about it also get's in my way.
The fact that it ain't easy and no all is "explained". I have searched through wikis and watched more youtube videos about the game than I've actually played the AWESOME game.

But alas one of many questions still remain.

Can someone explain me simply how can I control let say multiple ejectors or lights or landing gears, or what ever is so similar that I want to set all items in the same configuration.

I found this Block group but I don't know how it works and it seems to have only the last items I save under the same "group" nor I don't know how to add to the group.

Is it even possible and if, then simply put how or any videos you know that show it?

Thank you!

press the control key on your keyboard keep it pressed down and click the individual for example thrusters when you have then all name the block group and click the save button should now be in your list when you press K.

yes, i.e. Connectors, you select multiple ones (via standard Windows key commands, SHIFT+Click from Range A to H and everything inbetween, CTRL+Click for individually A, C, F,G,H etc.pp.) then make a Group-name, Save-Button group-name. done.
the group is usually at the top of the modules list on the left of the Control-panel (K). If ALL MODULES IN THAT GROUP ARE THE SAME, then the funktion settings of that group are 'copied over' to each module, in that group, IF YOU CHANGE THEM. If you've had them set individually, they retain their individually set function-parameters/settings in that groups (that's on purpose, that way lights don't change colors, if all you want just to turn them on and off)

Nice! Just found it out on my own as well, but the lights is a good new bit!

Thank you both for a quick response :)

np Atlana actually explained it better than I did :)

Hopefully using this system we can use hotkey eventually.

To get multiple items in a grouping, you have two options: You can do the above-mentioned Control key, and click each item individually, or you can find the start of your list, select it, scroll to the bottom of your desired list, and Shift+click on the last item. This will select everything between the two slots that you clicked on.

For groups that have multiple types of blocks, like gravity drives, which use Artificial Mass and Grav Gens, using Shift+click can possibly select items that you don't want selected, in which case, you have a further two options: Shift +click the whole group, and Ctrl+click to deselect the stuff that you don't want, or you can Shift+click one part of your group, scroll past the unwanted stuff, and Ctrl+click the top of the second part of your grouping. After that you can scroll to the bottom of the second set, and Shift+click to select the rest of that set.

This method can be used multiple times: One idea I have for my WIP grav-drive freighter is to have the grav gens, and artificial mass in their own sets, and then I'd add interior lights to indicate that it's on. That way, the interior lights serve as a warning that the grav drive is active.

That would require three sets in one grouping.
