The Steam overlay isn't registering with the game. Anyone else getting this error?

I have had this error for a long time. eventhough its enabled it still doesn't work
Why does this ONLY happen with this game and no others?

Probably due to the fact that the graphics engine is a custom in-house built one called VRAGE.

ANY type of overlay can mess with it. Riva Tuner, Fraps... Make sure you don't have one turned on and it should work.
Since it's custom built I hope they can improve it to the point where things like Fraps don't break the steam overlay <.<

If you have fraps on, or some other kind of overlay, turn it off then start the game. Steam overlay doesnt like fraps very much atm. If you have to record, open the game with fraps off, then start fraps.

This worked flawless, for me. :) ty
Except for the flaw where you can't use the third-party application like Fraps that works in every other game? That flaw.

Notice he was replying to my post which told him a way to fix it, and he said thanks, which i would assume was thinking me for giving him that solution.

Exactly but since a couple of updates ago, I dont have any 'flaws' opening/playing the game while fraps is running in the taskbar. The flaw is now a myth.

Krashd, you having issues starting the game while fraps is on?
Yeah, I can only use the steam overlay if fraps is off, so no turorials.
ok i've been getting this error myself in Win 7 and closing down Fraps didn't help. i do have Afterburner running, but that has to stay running... no afterburner = no gpu fan control = 6 foot high flames after 10 minutes

i am running a dual boot Win 7 - Win XP system and i decided to try it in XP just for the hell of it before giving up on SE completely. result - it worked first time without a flaw. (both OSs are running Afterburner)

it seems to me that the steam overlay doesn't like Win 7 - 64 bit very much
I was having problems with Riva that is included in Afterburner and Precision. You can add the Spaceengineers.exe to the list of programs in Riva and tell it to not detect the program. That way, you can leave Afterburner, etc. on and simply omit this game from Riva. I just thought that would help some people.
