How to make a server for just my friends.
I have tryed looking around and it seams like some people are able to do this but I see to be unable to make a private server useing a steam groop, I also can't find anything on issueing commands to the server. Could anyone point me to the right place to find a good guide for this stuff, also How do i find the 64bit version of a steam groop id?

Having just been released Thursday I don't know if everyone knows all the ins and outs of dedicated servers, and there is sure to still be some bugginess as its only the first release. The only guides I've seen are the ones the devs provided with the release, but maybe something in there will help you:

Dedicated Server Guide: http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/dedicated-servers.html
Marek's blog-post about Dedicated Servers and Multiplayer: http://blog.marekrosa.org/2014/05/space-engineers-dedicated-servers-and_29.html

Good luck.
Apologies if you have already seen these, I figure many people out there may have overlooked them because reasons.

I have looked at them and found them unhelpfull, they were great for a public server but I don't like random people coming in and wrecking things because they can.

I understand, sorry it wasn't of any help. No one else had replied so I figured I would give it a shot.

make a steam group invite the friends you want to join you in Space Engineers.

Once you have done that write down the steam group ID number and place into the dedicated server box that says Steam Group ID which by default is set to 0, once you put your steam group number in that box and save and restart your server, once you load Space Engineers only members of your group can see your server it remains hidden to public users and the only ones who can see it and enter the server are your friends who are members of your group.

hope that helps.

cheers,
The Stig :)

No it doen't, I get errors like steam servers offline, failed to authenticate and others. Yes it is port forwarded yes it shows up in the serverlist and in lan games, and no one can connect to it without getting an error.

Yep i agree they must still be working on it hopefully not too long before it is working properly and people are able to use it, but i was pointing out that is the way to do it once they have fixed it and it is working properly but forgot to point out that as of now it isn't working :)

cheers,

Wow, this is over 5 years old... 1min in guide-section and you have it. :P

Necros a 5 year old thread, when there's nearly a dozen guides on it now (could be more, but I don't care to look). I will not help since it's been guided to death. Majority of the player base won't be able to host a dedicated server though due to networking and hardware.

If you have a fairly high end build/ workstation and google fiber then you'll be fine. If you have wifi and a laptop don't bother.
