Playing on the Mac
So I just bought the game and I own a Mac. I go to play and the game says that Space Engineers is not available on my current platform. What should I do?

Can't argue with facts lol

Your assertions are opinions, not facts. Facts are the Mac PLATFORM can run both Windows and OS X. Nobody is arguing Windows doesn't have better support game wise. Some people prefer the OS X environment though, so having the flexibility to also run Windows to play certain games is nice.

You have the typical mindset of a snobby gamer, if you're not playing on a Windows machine you're an idiot. You can't do it on a Mac. What a waste of money. Blah blah blah.

Some terms to clarify:

1) PC = Personal Computer, Macs are PCs
2) Mac is a platform, not an operating system
3) OS X is an operating system

My assertions were in fact facts and you even agreed with my statements that not all games run on Mac. I agreed that for games that aare supported on Macs that ones that have the necassary hardware run them just fine. As for preference of the OS environment I aslo said that it is a matter of preference as they can both basically perform the same tasks. I am tlaking about Macs as a whole because OS X is proprietary to Macs so I consider them the same. It is the same when I say PC or Windows instead of the specific version of windows like XP or 7. I also didn't argue its ability to run Windows but just the fact that you need to because lots of games arent supperted on Macs natively. A windows gamer can just have windows and never have to deal with anything other than windows but a Mac gamer, if he wants to play any game, has to have Mac and Windows to do that. I am not attacking Mac or OS X as an operating system.
OP, may I reccomend installing BootCamp on your Mac? The only downside is that you have to buy a copy of Windows. After that, you should be able to find all the help you need on the Apple Forums.

lol, all the gaming nay-sayers about Macs and their gaming potential.

Mac platform has the same high-end hardware that gaming computers have, you just need the OS. The answer i have found is Parallels Desktop, which lets you run "Windows.app" as an emulator.

works better than my backup PC on all games, and my PC is newer than my mac

Steam has a refund policy. Something like less than 2 hours played and within 10 days.

Since this is still a top hit for "space engineers mac", I thought I'd add that I just tried playing it in Wine (via PlayOnMac) and it crashed on startup. I've got a decent machine - I play plenty of other games on this including Elite Dangerous, KSP, etc, so it's not a hardware issue.

Looks like bootcamp might be the only way to do it on mac hardware.

i can see this happing because i did the same mistake and it is truly sad that i think steam messed up some games one day because i was thinking about 2 but space engineers was the one i bought and it displayed as a mac game before and not the next day. and for you guys saying macs are not for gaming, macs can run more hefty games then the normal person can afford and also the hardware might me harder to code for, it is better for gaming and its hardware through not as good as the 3,000$ alien wares and other gaming computers are better than the affordable ones. Macs are amazing and if you really want the game, try to play with wine or look for the porting team for a wrapper then use wineskin

For SE I imaging using Wine will lead to really bad performance as the game is even highly demanding on non-emulated systems.
So dual-boot would be the way to go, if your parents allow it.
But I don't know your Macs HW specs. Usually, Macs are not outfitted for high-end gaming. Especially the GPU often lacks the necessary punch, while the rest of the components is decent.
And the game is not optimized yet, which could still cause issues.

I'm a serious gamer and have been for over 2 decades. And.. I own a MAC. I left the windows world when I took one look at Vista Beta and haven't looked back with a moment of regret. I don't even own a windows computer because they aren't made with anything serious in mind except taking your money for an operating system that allows your computer to run not much else other than the operating system. There are plenty of games for MAC.

Personally I hope the devs consider a MAC version. Many other games play nicely on this platform and I suggest they take advantage of it. MACs have awesome hardware and fairly solid updates and stable interfaces.

I also suggest that if Bobblehead doesn't own a MAC (which he has already admitted) then he really doesn't have freeness to talk about the subject. He certainly is a fountain of half truths and bad search results.

Just saying.. I'm a serious gamer and have been for over two decades and I love my MAC. Not looking to pick a fight, just allowing readers a more objective viewpoint.

Lol, first off its been 2 years since I made that comment. I would normally ignore necrod posts but naming me personally I guess Ill give a response.

I find it difficult to imagine that I could be incorrect considering my last comment basically boils down to:

-Games that play natively on a Mac, that meet recommended specs, play fine.
-Games that dont play natively on a Mac require runnings Windows in some shape or form. This can be an obstacle in some situations.
-Macs have less than 50% of the number of games than Windows.
-Windows users get access to pretty much every single computer game where Mac users need Windows in order to play a lot of games.

Those are cold hard facts and really all that matter in a conversation about computer gaming. If you play on a Mac you limit yourself on your available games unless you decide to run Windows too. As far as what OS you prefer to use to browse the web and watch Youtube it really doesnt matter, they can both do that stuff just fine.
