Weapon laser target
I didn't find anyone complaining about this issue, just the red dot appearing only when really close to the target, but those lasers that helped me spot turrets are gone. Did Keen remove them? I'm talking about those that would look around and aim at you when you got close-ish.

Might be a DX11 issue. Are you using DX9 or DX11?
Hai Aug 17, 2015 @ 8:57pm
DX 9 afaik. Missile turrets have no aim laser as well.
See where turrets are to shoot them off can be a tad hard without the aiming lasers lol

A few things I'll try and explain here...

The reason you can see a laser pointer on earth for real is because the laser is in the visible light spectrum, and even then a laser like this you wouldnt be able to see in space because theres no dust in air for the light to bounce off to show the beam path.

A military laser sight doesnt use the visible light spectrum. It would be the same as a tracer round (works to show you where you are aiming, but also reveals your position) The rest of the sight piece has a filter on it that makes the laser show up.

Yom Kippur war: read about it, infrared lighting and detection specifically.... You can be outnumbered and win a war with technology....

Beyond that, say you are the one under attack. On a ship or station, being attacked by a fighter. Unless that pilots name is Herpsy McDerpsy, they won't be flying in a straight line or directly towards you. Having the laser dot even appearing is basically pointless until the target is close, as you need to lead moving targets.

However, since the situation you specifically mention sounds like it involves attacking cargo ships, what you can do is mount a camera on the front of your attack ship and use the zoom-in to pick out the turrets (middle mouse scroll when viewing the camera)

Erm... I think it's the wrong thread for the laser debate.

Are the turrets active? Do you have a laser-disabling mod running?
Hai Aug 18, 2015 @ 12:34pm
Yes, they are active. No, I have no mods.
A couple of months ago they would appear normally, then when I got close-ish they would aim at me, and if I got closer they would start shooting. Before aiming I think they used to look around.

Do the turrets fire?

The turrets now have the Idle Movement option. It has no impact on lasers, though.

Yes, they fire.

Have you verified cache integrity?

I guess we're now certain this is a bug.

I can try. Internet is really bad where I am at atm, so I might have to wait until I get home next week.
edit: apparently I can do that with a crappy internet. Turns out everything is fine.

Bumping this. Observed the same issue. Will now see if it is present in an unmodded install.

My observation was prior to the update; haven't yet gotten back in, the upate has caused a lot of new crashes to show up.
