But he uses regular rotors, i got advanced ones. Does that mean that advanced rotors won't work in my case? :(. Which would be kinda silly

When you get to the point 2 blocks would perfectly fill the gap add a merge to one
You will have to adjust rotor displacement to get that gap correct
Then rotate it out of the way and add a merge to the other side, and turn them both off
Rotate them back into alignment and switch the merge blocks on
Now you can fill around the merge blocks and once a solid block connection is there delete them and replace with normal blocks
