how much dose ping matter?
what is the lowest server ping avaible for multiplayer I seem to be getting 66 is the lowest and I don't want to wait till infinet is out to see what it is going to drop to for me on the lowest server pings

I hit 10000 on one server, and it was playable, soo.....yeah.

Usually if the sever is in the same country you ping will be between 50-100ish, a normal cross atlantic ping from UK to US (Far coast) is approx 250. You will get "spikes" etc, but you won't want to be constantly on a sever with a high ping, nor will others want you there.

so how much would removing oh say a few kilometer's of copper wiring from ones infrastructer for the internet and replaceing it with fiberoptics to basically your back alley cause that's what's happening for me right away infinet is a fibernode for my building as opposed to connecting to one downlown which is kilometer's away how much will that improve multiplayer as far as latency gose? will that make it better just curious how something like that will change my internet I know it will result in my upload increaseing by 5 times and download will be doubled bacause the internet provider dose say that's what the infinet speed's are but how will moving the fibernode affect the internet

I play just fine on "old copper" on lots of MP games, Fibre though you will get less packet loss (so less spikes), in SE terms this should leed to less "unreliable" packets when you look at netgraph....but a lot of the games Net performance has zip to do with your net connection and is due to the netcode that needs replacing and they are working on. As long as you have a good copper connection it will be fine, but if you live ages from a cabinet you will see an improvement if you do have bad pings right now (though 66 is fine)

One of the big issues is conention ratios, which broadband providers don't tend to tell you about, but basically works like this.

Say you have 10 people connected to an exchange, the exchange has a 50mb outpile, the 10 people all have 10mb pipes to the exchange, now if only 5 of you are online your connection will be great, but all 10? You'll be getting stuffed and thats nothing to do with the type of cable you have, or your pc, or the game, it's your internet company.

I used to work for one doing Internet tech support for 18 months, one of the UK bigger ones, and this was a big problem, they kept selling new packages to customers in areas they simply didn't have the infrastructure to deal with the demand, and everyones speed got worse and worse every single sale (and this was a cable to the home company too who people consider better than over the phone internet) It caused lots of issues, espcially for gamers/streamers who were never in a million years going to get the spees promised purely because the company had "over sold", and they do this on purpose, because they assume that not everone will be on the net at the same time, but come "prime time" in the UK these days that's not a smart assumption!

So to sumarise:

Without exceedingly detailed knowledge that your net provider is unlikely to give you it's not possible to say for sure how much of a speed improvement you will get, you may not get any at all, though you will likely find your connection more stable. But you won't get any massive improvement in this particular game due to the known MP netcode issues.

well I guess I'll have to do what I hate and wait till I can get it to see
Raven4K Jun 27, 2015 @ 3:03pm
but well the old system is basically the whole city of sasktel costomers getting highspeed internet from one fiberoptic node with the old current system for the new system infinet it's one fiberoptic node handling internet for one building so I was curious if anyone knew what the difference would be between the two systems I do know that sasktel's old highspeed internet has tons of lag for the highspeed internet for gaming shaw beats them hands down cause they have a fibernode doing just the internet for one city block of their costomer's each so logically infinet should be just as fast if not faster I am hoping

PC Performance also has a large impact on ping, given that your service provider isn't the largest bottleneck for your setup.

Raven4K Jun 27, 2015 @ 4:24pm
yeah yeah having an 8 core 9590 cpu isn't fast enough I'll need one of the new 16 core 32 thread zen cpu's when they come out and I'll have to go from 16 gigs of ddr3 to 32 gigs of ddr4 next year then I will not have to worry about that lol all though slowing down my ram from 2133 to 1600 seemed to speed up dx11 to the point it now runs as fast if not faster then dx 9 did and enabling the turbo cores shouldn't have made much of a difference a frame rate of 3 to a frame rate of 50 to 60 with dx11 so 5ghz is much faster then 4.7 or there was something else wrong that got fixed when I slowed down my ram

and then when I do that upgrade this system will be sold to my sister's fiancee in exchange he will have to play me space engineer's every week for a certian number of hour's to pay for this system from me and why cause I am that nice of a guy to give a gaming system to someone in exchange for playful favour's and then I will have a slave to do with as I choose in multiplayer buhahahaha I think I will call him Igor it has a nice ring to it and yes it's my sister's idea lol modified slightly to make him my space engineer's slave buhahahahaha and why cause I am getting sick and tired of playing alone so if I must buy a slave to play with I shall

lol well he seems to have given up on playing cause aparently the ps 4 is to expensive and his laptop burned out from diablo3 not sure how I thought gaming laptops could handle gaming so now he wants someone to buy him a gaming system mind you I have a pc which runs around 40 50 degree's I can only get it to 60 if I go without airconditioning and then I am bloody cooking from the heat at that point I love my new a/c keeps me nice and cool it's nice having a nice room temp of 70 instead of it going over 80 which is way to hot and people that I can find to play seem to just chicken out and not online when I am 6 to 8 pm german time is obviously when I am sleeping I am guessing what is german time I am in utc time of 6:00 what ever it is to german time and no daylight savings since my province is slit by two time zones we use utc without daylight savings

it would be nice if we could get ai npc's to play with that have premade personality's to play with screw people that are to much trouble to try and play with an npc would be nice as it can be ready to play when I want to play and no problems with timing and all that crap

The physical difference between copper and fibre would have zero effect on ping, the signal in either case is essentially traveling at the speed of light. Regardless, a few km is comletely negligible.

yeah well I wish that phase 2 for infinet would happen like next week why cause then my options for speed on internet cause right now I have the fastest internet avaiable to me and that's 2 megs a second for upload and for download 25 my exsisting service when it gose to infinet changes that to 10 for upload and 50 for download and I think I will bump it up to 60 for upload and 260 for download why cause why not lol to see how good a server is to play on or test my system running a server game of 16
