There is no way to set the ownership of an entire ship to yourself if it belongs to a hostile faction, IE the neutral NPCs.

The answer I think you're looking for, is that you need to go through every ownable block on the ship (ones that show up red in the terminal), grind them past the computer components (it's the blue bar on the progress meter, often so close to the red one you can't tell the diffrence) and then rebuild them to full. Note that if the block is damaged, you'll have to break it down farther than the blue line. The more damaged it is, the farther you have to go. If you're just getting into this, I suggest repairing blocks before you try to change ownership, or you may get frustrated. Be wary of turrets, as they will start firing once they're repaired. It's safest to do with power removed from the ship, if that's practical.

The answer for how to change ownership of a block, is to select it in the terminal, and on the right you'll have a drop down menu for who you want to set the ownership to. Note this is only available if the block is owned by you already, or entirely neutral. It is also not necessary to do if you're employing the previously mentioned grinding method, as the ownership gets set to you automatically when you rebuild the block.

Right now the only way I know how to do so is grind the thing down on each block past the line. But, since I'm doing that. might as well build a new one and design it the way I want to. Would not mind knowing an easier way.

In Empyrion you only have to replace one block and it's yours :/

Aragosnat, I agree with your reasoning. However, learning how NPC and pirate ships are designed and how they work makes them easier to take, with less loss from destroyed components.

It also helps newer players, particularly ones who dislike watching out of game tutorial videos, understand how the different blocks work together to make ships work. You get to see what parts of their designs work well with how you play, what parts are atrocious to deal with (for me, the claustrophobicly small hallways), and it gives you better ideas for how to build one that works the way you want it to.

Congratulations. Now would you like to add anything meaningful to this thread?

Back on topic: As most others have said, the only way is partially disassembling the individual blocks and rebuilding them. But if you just want to scrap the ship for materials then you don't have to bother with rebuilding.

Good for Empyrion: The Game for People Too Impatient for Space Engineers.

OP: if you wanna be a little cheaty about it, you can leave your world, tick the "reset ownership" box in the world options, return and everything will be owned by nobody. You can then set ownership how you please.

Be careful of turrets. They will fire on anything that's not the same ownership they are, even on the same ship.

Agreed, Green. Grinding the armor blocks down just so you can place your own to fix the damage or add something it did not have there or went missing (this seems to be the case with the pirate station)... Gets a bit old after a while...

i agree with - VanGoghComplex - its the too ways that i would do it.

p.s. i think the "reset ownership" is now a 50,0km 360○ reset.
i found at the hard way, drones and cargo ship were off.
and i started back to home base, 280,???m flight. and found more
drones on the way, that did not reset. but i may be wrong and it was just a glitch.

Thanks so much for this explanation very easy to understand. Appreciate your time.

Also thanks to all who tried to help this old fart, much appreciated!

When I capture ships, I do it with the intent of rebuilding them, which often means just breaking it down block by block. I personally find it easier than fiddling about with something someone else designed.

Good for Empyrion, I hope you enjoy the game, there are a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of things SE can do that Empyrion can not do, do.me.a favour, and let the Empyrion community know what SE can do.

i learned a whole lot in my early days with this game by taking npc ships apart piece by piece and rebuilding a fresh copy of the ship next to the npc one as i went :)

Even if you feel you don't need.to learn, I'd advise doing this just for the fun of it. :)

That is a good idea, thanks.
