How can I select all in the control panel?

click on something in the panel then click ctrl+a

Another way is to click on the top item and then, while holding the Shift, click on anything else. If you do, everything between those two items is selected

That would be a more labour intensive way to do it :p
Since we are talking about means of selection, by pressing and holding ctrl and then clicking items in the menu allows you to select multiple individual items in any order and with unselected items between them, or click an already selected item to unselect it and only it.

if you REALLY want 'all' items...yes. How about JUST the Thrusters? Or JUST the Drills?

There's a search bar for a reason...why not just "filter" for the stuff you want and select them then?

Type thrust or drill in the search bar, then click something in the list it filters down to and press ctrl-a. ;)

Ohh sure, that will work fine unless you have multiple ships docked together at which point you need to either use a unique prefix system (yay for me, works even with merge block docking ^.^) or you need to select the right parts manualy anyway because so far you can't filter based on level of attachment. :p
But reallly. the original question was just how to select /everything/ Ctrl+a is the best way to do that :p
