FYI: Target locking can only happen while you are manually controlling the turret (it states this very clearly when you are looking at the controls of any turret and mouse over the "lock on" box)
It's the dumbest thing I have ever seen. An update that gives new weapons, extends ranges, but makes it so the AI cannot actually see / target / lock on to any target beyond 800m
Maybe I need to hit up the modding community to fix another major game breaking flaw.
Kindly explain the steps to allow the AI to "target lock" beyond 800m. In the current vanilla game, it simply is not possible without modding it.
This is a fatal flaw in the combat design, and 100% defeats any defensive turrets on a station or ship when mods that allow pirates or drones to be spawned with the same weapons, can target you at those longer ranges.
I seem to have gotten my answer, it's off to get this stupidity modded to work correctly.
I agree with you. It seems stupid to have the AI automatic targeting range so ridiculously low. I was thinking this about the custom turrets controller block too, only 600m targeting range wtf!?
IMO the targeting range should be considerably further than the weapon range so that a turret can lock a target before it can shoot a target in preparation to fire, and as soon as the target comes into the maximum weapon range it should auto-fire.
At least that is how reality works. An Apache Gunship for example will get a missile lock on a tank from miles away, well before it can even launch the Hellfire missile. Imagine if it had to fly right upto the tank point blank range before it could lock it?!!? That would be crazy.

Send your Modded save ready for testing with steps to reproduce direclty to the SE programmers to let them know it's not working well with that specific Mod.

Fact you can be offlined so easily and need a mod to receive the proper range, is really silly.
Thanks for posting that mod. I'll be using it on my server.
Turrets, do not require a Target Lock to engage the enemy.
Turrets are able to select targets independently, up to a maximum range equal to the turret’s “AI aiming radius.” This range can be set manually, or left at the default.
Some weapons may have a greater effective range than the “AI aiming radius”. You can take advantage of this increased range through target locking. More on max effective weapon range below...

So it seems to be well balanced in vanilla and why I recommend to report to the Mod author so he can update his Mod so the enemy Drones can have low range like in Vanilla.
