Beacon limited to 50k?
I always thought it was infinite, but with planets now this is a bigger problem... Iw as trying to place beacons on all of them, but now it's certainly pointless. It also kinda makes beacons obsolete since antennas have the same function. I would love it if the devs would allow beacons to be infinite again.

Beacons aren't obsolete, they just serve a more limited function than antennas at a tiny fraction of the power consumption.

GPS coordinates, however, can be seen at any range and consume no power or resources.

You're not wrong, but they don't tell you where something is relative to you. Unless you write each cord down on paper... But I wouldn't have made this post if I wanted to copy cords down on paper. I also don't want to use the waypoints mod for this, there's a physical object in game for waypoints that is limited, I'd like that to change.

this is why you need to make an antenna network. as long as one of the antennas can pick up the beacon. yes in a sense it is a bit "obsolete" in that regard. its more used fore (with multiplayer maybe) to limit power usage for distress calls. its more and RP thing i believe.

...what?

GPS coordinates absolutely tell you where something is relative to you. They show up on your HUD, just like a beacon signal does... you don't need to write anything down to use them.

I must be missing something about how you want to use them.

Why on earth would I do that?

I want to put a station on each planet. Planets are VERY far away from one another. I like knowing exactly how far. I don't want to use cordinates to do this, I like the idea of havingstatiosn that report their locaiton relative to you. Since this feature already exists, and is simply limited... Why not remove the limit? There's no purpose for the limit anymore.

i dont know? :P just trying to give it reason to exist.

I don't want a beacon to know where I am going, I'd use cords and the waypoint mod. I want it to measure distance, and have a tangible identifier. Planets are big, you don't need to know where they are.

Oooh, understood.

Wait, no I don't. My GPS coordinates tell me how far away I am from something.

Are you wanting to use a beacon on something moveable, like a ruler?

It even seems the waypoints mod is bust... Well can't even fake it now...

You really need to stop and go try out the GPS system. I don't think you understand what it is.

It's not "coords" or something you write down. It's essentially a free unlimited range beacon you can place anywhere with a single click. The only things you should be using beacons on is moving objects, like so you don't lose ships, antenas are for broadcasting targets like ore deposits and using drones. If you want to mark a static object and always know where it is, GPS it, always.

I know precisely what it is, I want a tangible system of location objects. Let's say I have a space station I want to locate, a waypoint won't follow a moving object now will it?

Space stations don't typically move, so the GPS is fine. Planets don't move, GPS is fine for them. You can place a GPS marker than build some light armor blocks on top of it if you need something "physical" there, but it still sounds like to me you aren't getting that GPS markers show up on your hud the same way antenas and beacons do. Everything about how a GPS marker works is identical to a beacon, it just wont move if the target moves. You are supposed to use GPS for marking like stations, asteroids, resource deposits, etc. Beacons are for keeping track of moving ships. The two systems exist at the same time for a reason.

You don't seem to understand something... I play this game as it is quite realistic in most aspects, I enjoy that experience. A feature already exists for a logical realistic locator, I prefer that. That's MY preference. I just simply would like ot know a way to remove the silly limit they placed ont he beaocn for seemingly no reason, as it worked perfectly fine without it.

Sorry, but your touting the game's realism and expecting a beacon that projects a signal for an unlimited distance doesn't quite mesh... XD

Surely though there's a mod for extended beacon range?

Unlimited? No, but longer than 50km. I've found one for the laser antenna, ironically that doesn't display location.

-EDIT- Found a mod that extends to 2M km. It is also insanely large to accomodate the extended range(so it adds to realisim).
