DirectX 11 vs 9
Is it just me or does the game run slower and more jittery on DX11 over 9? I have a really good PC and can run other DX11 games on the highest of settings and get decent FPS but when I play SE on DX11 on high I get 20Fps and on medium its like 25 then low it stays at 25. When I run DX9 my FPS skyrockets over 120. The worst thing is I can't play with planets very well because it requires DX11. If planets would use DX9 I wouldn't be typing this.

Have you tried spawning your own planets in an empty world? I've read that the starting scenarios with planets are killers for performance for whatever reason.

I am also having performance issues with DX11, I have i7 4790K 4.0GHz with 16GB of ram and a R295X2 graphics card. Admitadly I am running with a 4K screen, but with DX9 I get great FPS over 100, however when I switch to DX11 it is doewn in 20's and this is in the open space scenarios. On the Planets it can drop as low as 19FPS even on medium settings.

Is this what others are seeing or is there an issue with this kind of set up , I know some times the Crossfire and be an issue for games ?

I see better FPS than this with other high stress games like ARMA 3 where I can confatably get 50FPS with midium settings.

when i try load a map with D-X 11 THE GAME JUST CRASHES :P soo no planets for me.

I really hope this doesn't explode into a big problem later on. Keen needs to optimize the game when utilizing DX11 and make planets a possibility when running DX9. I am running the new i7 6700k with 16GB DDR4 at 3000Mhz, M.2 Samsung 256GB SSD and a EVGA GTX 980TI...In theory I shouldn't have problems running this game in DX11 but I am. Even with my old AMD rig its the same thing..Good fps on DX9 but horrible performance on DX11. I can run games like BF4, Arma 3 and Farcry 4 with no issues on high settings.

You can try to update your drivers too. If DX11 crashes your game. From personal experience there is a lot of memory leak problems when running DX11 over 9 especially when using mods in DX11. There has been times (almost daily now) that I have run DX9 without issues even with mods and then switched over to DX11 and the game has used almost all of my 16GB memory but on DX9 it never goes higher than 4GB. So take that into consideration as well. Just make sure your drivers are up to date.

I have discovered that my graphics was only using one of the GPUs, I amaged to get it to use both by selecting Fullscreen, I was on Fullscreen Windowed before. NOw I get a much better (playable FPS about 40) but I get a constant flickering on the screen. I found this was the same on Medieval Engineer. Looks like the game needs some optermization for running on duel GPUs (AMD anyway)

could it be because dx 9 is very basic and easier to handle on machines? also i reckon its more to do with the spit and polish side of things. the game isnt even using multiple cores atm.... it is very innefficient atm. so keep all that in mind. :)

Dx11 is much much faster when implemented correctly my guess is that when they first put DX11 in it worked fine but they havent touched it since and subsequent updates have broken it

DX9 looks better as far as lighting goes. I'm about to switch back. Right now my game looks like Aliens where everything is dark even though there are lights everywhere.

I have run multiple AMD cards before in systems and back when the 5870's came out ATI (Now AMD) released a feature with their drivers that makes it so when a 3D application is running that only the required power of the gpu's will be utilized so only say one gpu would be in use and then it would slightly utilize the other gpu depending on the demand. When idle only one gpu would be running in a multiple card setup. I only use one gpu now days as that's really all you need.

I did notice a 30FPS jump when running the game in fullscreen not fullscreen border but when you alt+tab you can't get back in-game.

I cant believe people are still even talking about DX9 in 2015.
Its almost like trying to get SE to work on a 386
Game Logic Nov 16, 2015 @ 7:51pm
I still have my 386 and DX9 is the standard for basic graphics these days. Companies are still slowely evolving into DX11 and now DX12.
