Set Starting Time Of Day?
I'm trying to do the Solar System world, but it keeps spawning me on a planet during nighttime. This sucks because I LITERALLY CANT SEE A THING.

I rarely get spawned during daytime, and when I do, it's at an arctic location.

Extra Question: Do I need specific requirements to fly out of a planet? All the ships in the earth start keep stalling and falling. Am only able to fly out using jetpack.

I know this is old and it's likely covered elsewhere, but it was the first hit I got on the Googles and with the current version of SE (v1.190.1), you can set this by using the ALT+F10 while in creative. I've not tested this in survival but I suspect it will not work. While in the 'Admin Tools' section you can set your time of day to what ever you want with the slider bar. Just remember to set your length of day in your build details before hand. I plan on playing a 6 hour day, so in theory (not yet tested), that means 3 hours of daylight and 3 hours of night(dark?).

Again, I'm sure this is posted elsewhere, but I just started spamming ALT+Fn keys and whala!

You're welcome. :steamhappy:

Sorry if this sounds like a troll post, but did you know you can push "L" to turn on your flashlight?

I had the same experience, and actually ended up enjoying starting my base in the dark. Nights go by quickly, too.

A friend told this to me as well haha.

But I specifically want to start during the day! It's more of a matter of preference than visibility.

Just went and tried again.

2 times I get daylight, but at an arctic planet/location.

FML.

The answer to your question about getting into orbit has been answered multiple times: hydrogen thrusters are the only realistic to get into orbit. All of the easy planet start ships have atmospheric thrusters that don't work in outer space.

Have you tried messing with the sun rotation/length of day settings?

Thanks for the info on the thrusters. I've searched using the search bar & never found a result.

& Yes I have tried changing the time of day setting, but that only does as it says, specifies the length of a day and doesn't seem to affect to what time of day/night you get spawned in.

I think that the sun starts in the same place every time, so if you get a daylight spawn, you are more likely to be in an arctic location.

Once I was finally able to land in the dark though, it meant I could get the solar panels up before dawn and get the most energy out of them.

I also tried to cheat by turning off sun rotation when it got to noon(sun directly overhead), but that just reset me to before dawn, with no sun.

The artic has the advantage of ice being fairly easy to get, but I find I really wont need it until I am ready to go to space. I just keep my helmet off and don't use my jets.

Before I wanted to do survival though, I got on creative and I was in a non-arctic environment at daylight.

I feel your pain, I restarted a dozen times yesterday to find a start in daylight where I could see some decent terrain / lake that I could build by.

And even that, the game went to nighttime in like 15 minutes of my starting hah.
Astasia Nov 13, 2015 @ 6:30pm
My third attempt I got a nice flat non-artic start at dawn. Essentially at the "equator" as well, the sun passes directly over the top of my base.

It's possible to get a start like that, it's very random though. Good luck.

BTW: For anyone trying to get a good time of day start, you can adjust world settings before loading the world, including the length of a day cycle, so one thing you can do is start your new world with a day cycle of 1 minute, run the world until the time of day is exactly where you want it to be for your start, then save and quit, go into the world settings, set the day cycle to where you would normaly have it (such as 2 hours), reload your world and there you go! :)

How the hell did I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ miss this *facepalm*

Thanks man!

I tried that, and when I turned the day/night cycle off, it just moved the sun back to its starting position.
timahoo Nov 21, 2015 @ 11:05am
I find exiting to the menu, changing the day length to something else resets the sun position to a different point of the planet, if it's still dark I exit again then set the day length one hour longer and then if the sun's up I'm good for a few hours.
