One easy way to make your game run better
Ok, so, I have a two year old laptop, runs the game ok at moderate settings for most game play but I wanted a bit more so I could make massive builds without the game turing into a laggy mess. So I decided to apply some game tweaks I got from a upgrade guide on the Ark forums. Most don't apply to SE but the one that did got me seeing a 10-20 fps boost and brought my sim speed up a bit to reduce stutter.

No promises this will work for everyone but I thought I'd share it and see if it could help anyone else.

-Open Steam
-Go to you Libray page
-Right click on Space Engineers
-Select Properties
-Click "Set Launch Options"
-In the window type in "-USEALLAVAILABLECORES"
-Click OK
-Start your game as normal

cant believe i did not think of that so simple a command yet powerful
no change here. I loaded up a save game, pressed shift+F11, looked at my fps, applied the launch option, relaunched the game, same fps.

You likely wont notice it in the fps but probably in the sim speed smooth and fps dont always coralate i can fly around somewhat well at 13 fps with no stutering.

yea, but OP stated "seeing a 10-20 fps boost", and I was basing my findings on that. Nothing was stated about sim speed, and tbh, I never really paid attention to it. Every time I look at simspeed, it always showed 1.00 for me.

btw, what exactly does simspeed do? I hear about it all the time, but never really figured out what it does/for?

Not exactly sure i just knows its equally important to stability of the game.

No increase in FPS here with the launch parameter, I've already got 120 FPS so I'm good I guess...

This launch parameter is going to be EXTREMELY useful for ArmA 3 though!

I so wish the game was working for me right now so I could try it. I have a feeling it's gonna be super useful. Just have to wait for the hot fix.

"Sim speed" is the speed at which the games physics simulation is running - if youve ever played eve, or supreme commander then you will see an example of throttling sim speed to account for server/user hardware, SE does the same, if it cant find the resources to make the calculations in real time it throttles the game speed to make sure it has the time to do everything.

Glad I could help those I could, sorry about the ones it doesn't work for :(

I updated the OP to better reflect my results, forgot to check the before sim speed. All I know is that my game went from barely being playable at times when I was building a huge ship (i.e. a stuttering, lagging mess) to something that was entirely playble with structures 5x's what I had before.

Most of these fixes work better for those having issues playing the game at all I have a 20km long structure and im running somewhat smooth while staring down at the planet.

I cant get the sim speed to stabilize above .8 while moving since the patch, worst case its at 0.3, fresh world, no mods, 10km view range, playing mid detail on 1920x1080 - my cpu isnt exactly the dogs bollocks, but its no slouch either;
intel i7-4710hq and a geforce gtx 870m, 12gb ram.

that command only works for unreal engine 4 games, this game uses vrage engine, any change you guys are noticing is just a placebo effect...

Does this work with most games?

I don't think so, I've tried a few of my worlds with big builds and without this command line and it does back to being a stuttering mess. It can't even handle planets without this, so I'm going to say it works for me.

I thought Keen built the engine from scratch not modified it from a built engine?
