In the process of building my first "big" ship - not exceptionally large but big enough to walk around in - and ran across an unfortunate and very familiar problem. Blocks being locked to a single size forces building much larger than really needed for things like walls and ceilings. It would be nice if I could use "small ship" blocks and have them retain their small size so I could build thinner interior walls. smaller conveyer lines and whathaveyou. So much space is wasted when every block is forced to be the same scale. I imagine there is probably a mod for this but as the game is still a WIP it would be nice to see it added.

On a side note, why is there no 1x1 stair block?

Anywho, loving the game, just a couple of irksome quirks.

there is a mod for building big small ships. i found it alright but it suffers from the problem that if you get out of the terminal or it would probably work with an enclosed cockpit aswell, either way, if you get out you'll probably fly strait into the sides and die.

but yes i was playing around with a mod that has most of if not all of the machines in scaled down versions.

the thing is, concept wise small ships and their blocks are meant for ships you cannot walk around inside of by default. While large ship blocks are of course for walking inside of and the problem that you run into is things like interior lights taking an entire large block space. As for conveyors, small conveyors only let small things like ore move inside of, so thats why you have to use large conveyor tubes on large ships.

just use the convayors for roofs/floors and cover them with cat walk tiles if you don't like the way it looks

Catwalk tiles are superb for smaller large ships. They use them a lot in the default designs.

The agled sheet metal windows are perfect as 1x1 stairs. I learned that from the easy start 2 asteroid base.
