Planetary Mining Impossible Right now
Has anyone mastered planetary mining, Ive tryed but with wheels disapearing and whole vehicles just sinking into the planet and the fact that ore is deep and not properly marked its not really possible.
I hesitate to go from creative to playing proper survival start as even more issues come into play like random deaths, weight issues, power issues ,its no longer space engineers its "Wish i could go to space engineers".
I dont see any mining vehicles in the work shop and assume its cause they dont work, to wait so long only to have no functional planet mining and be forced to start on a planet seems to be a bit silly, i know i could just play without planets but they are so awsome in principal.

Here's hoping it gets sorted soon.

Yes. 1. Ditch wheeled vehicles...wheels, like rotors and pistons suck...NEVER use them, unless you're solo and alon and not multiplaying...and even then use extreme caution cause wheels and rotors and pistons suck. 2....EVERYTHING seems as brittle as glass right now....so be VERY ginger, in a flying craft never tap anything, even lightly if you can help it...take your mining very slowly. Never let anything bump your thrusters.... 3. when you have rock in your way, RIGHT click (not left click) while activating your drills...this will clear away a LOT of rock you don't want very rapidly and make a very big hole your miner can fly into. 4. always pay attention to how heavy you are, do not get greedy. 5....pay attention to the ground...look for the dark blotches you see ...where it looks like there's a stain on the green loam...wherever you see a dark blotch, mine down deep, a rich vein is always below a dark blotch. 6. You will not find platinum till you reach the moon, make only enough resources to get off the planet and land on the moon....with ion your life will be better off.
Mining even on planets is tricky , on moon tho you can fly into space find asteroid and mine it old way

when comes to planets this genious made space ship mining rig who could be easily used for planetary mining , no moving parts exept wheels , very clever design

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GA0nob2n5I ill soon make miner of it myself if i gather enough ore

We gave up.

The ground is just too gltitchy. It clips and kills you to often and after awhile we just got sick of dying every few minutes.

I'll try the game again in a few months and see if they have resolved the issue.

The only method I've found at all to work is using the good old mining drill. I find an ore that I want to mine using my ore detector on the drill. Make a straight down hold using right click until I hit the ore and start cutting away picking up both stone and ore. I leave no rocks lying around as just looking at one wrong will cause you to fall through the planet never to return. Really at this time survival may need an update or two before it's properly ready for planets

Survival mode is almost unplayable right now because its so buggy hey guys?... My Drills on my mining ships are made of paper and break with the slightest bump also... it really makes survival lame. But I really want to play survival because planets are so awsome. :)

Yes make a b line for a moon sounds like the go,sad that the earth is just too hard to work on i guess i will stay in creative as i have been creating a star system, and try a earth escape survival thingy,if that fails all is lost as the server i was playing on has shut down for the moment due to the current state.
:(

Gravity. It hurts. So remember everything you do in this new environment has to be done with care. If your drilling and there is debris flying around your gonna get hurt. If you overload your ship it takes more time to responded so your gonna get hurt. If you stand in front of the baby when it throws its rattle your gonna get hurt. Gravity. It hurts.

Also if you run, it's killing you.

i am sad mars is super hard as this what i wanted to play , maybe if i know game better , have some decent experience with planets and few blueprints ill try again at it

I am having zero issues mining on the earth planet. Most of what Raxamon said is good advice, avoid wheels, pistons, rotors, don't over complicate things with mechanics known to be horribly buggy. Just clear out stone with right click and fly to the ores and start mining. It's not difficult or slow. Learning to fly in gravity took me a few hours early on, but now flying my mining ship to a dark spot in the ground and grabbing some ore is just as easy as if I was in 0 G and mining an asteroid. I can't carry as much per trip, but the ore is so close that making multiple trips isn't an issue.

Consider using the energy shields mod. It helps protect your ships from being broken from small bumps.

All very good advice. I'm a rather bad pilot but a succesful miner. Go slow with care and it all works.

But PLANETS! Its what the monkeys have been screaming for for months!
Heck, who would need an overhauled network code at all? Simspeed 0.2 is enough with lots of room for..more....
Short: The monkeys got what they screamed for. It sucks, its broken, no proper vehicles for planets, but hey: PLANETS!

It seems like planets are set up more for strip mining than standard asteroid deep mining. It seems like using a vehicle to clear out all of the rock on top of the vein would solve a lot of the issues that I've seen. An airship does not do this very efficiently since the batteries drain so quickly with all of the air thrusters required for an atmospheric mining vessel. I think I'm going to try to make a rover that does this, and does not store the rock to see how well that works. Then I can just fly in and mine the ore normally with my airship once a large section of ore is exposed.
