Is Nightime On Planets Too Dark?
In my opinion playing on planets during nighttime can be quite difficult and somewhat lonely as all you can see is where your flashlight is. With this pitch black darkness flying ships around can be dangerous as a random hill or tree will snatch your ship out of the sky. Is it possible to make the darkness within atmosphere less dark? Like maybe make it so while you are in atmosphere you will still receive some starlight?

Have you considered putting spotlights on your ship?

i think its perfect!! i mean if there was a rotating moon you would get better lighting.

but i think as it is its quite accurate.

I have done this but because of how dark the surrounding is I'd have to go really slow to be able to see what's in front of me in time to evade.

you might want to consider increasing the speed of the sun.

It's not so much that there's too much nightime but just that what nighttime there is is a bit too dark for my liking.

I guess another way I can say this is if anyone has ever played Minecraft Alpha they'll remember how ridiculously dark night got and how if you were caught outside you were pretty much screwed. So they increased the brightness to make it more fair and reasonable. That's what I have in mind is just to make surface light be a level where you can at least make out the environment. Not so much that you could easily dodge obstacles but where you could see things like trees and mountains in your surroundings

If you look outside your window at night in real life you'll notice that most nights are pitch black just like these SE nights. Thing is out here in the desert of the real we solve this problem by SLEEPING at night. The fact that you are required to stay awake all of the time throws a wrench in any realism as far as day/night cycle goes. I can envision a bed or bunk type block that when used would allow you to skip ahead in time as though you just slept for x hours. That way people could skip the nights just like they do in reality. Just make sure you have enough power and oxygen or you'll die in your sleep. Maybe it could even work in MP if everyone was sleeping. It would be even better if you were required to do it or you got tired after a while.

The human eye can actually see fairly well just by starlight after a few minutes of adjusting. This game doesn't feel "dark," it feels like some sort of angry living blackness swallows the world for 50% of the time you play. Especially with how bad the lighting is, where lights are just adjustable orbs and the game goes pitch black instantly outside that orb. You aren't lighting up an area, you are pushing back liquid ink.

One option is to move base to near the "poles" where you can get longer days, or even areas where it's never really dark. I like having a night though.

I think the devs are aware it's too dark at night, I think they said something somewhere. I could have imagined it though.
the reason for that is because if there isn't civilisation i.e. city lights emenating brightness quite a distance. When the light from the nearest star is blocked out there is NO visible light, therefor the nights aren't too dark

I try and land on the most northern part of the planet. It seems that there is always some sort of light there.

the night is fine, what they need to fix/tweak is the lighting
or maybe random nights with a full moon ligth, a fake moon like the sun perhaps?

Its perfect really, finally i found a game with real nights, and yes, dark as ♥♥♥♥. You need spotlights, and you have them, they're so cheap. Do it!

Unless you live in a cave, or in a forest, the answer is no.
The only way to have pitch black night, is to have bad weather, or live near a city (the city light will kill night light).

Otherwise, if the weather is good, and you can see the sky (no trees), the night is far from pitch black. And if it's full moon, you have even more light.
It's more than enough to see around you. Sure, you can hardly take the details, but it's not pitch black.
It's not like the night sky is made of billions of little sun you know.

On a planet with no light pollution whatsoever, and perhaps a light atmosphere, you would see pretty well.

City dwellers, forget how real nights are, and think they know better.

I live in the counrty, and when I step outside my backdoor I can't even see my hands in front of my face except with full moons. I think SE got it pretty acurate with this one. Although more light from the nearby moons would be apreciated.
