Turrets hitboxes
Hello there ! I'm here to talk about the turrets htboxes*.
Hitbox: A hitbox is an invisible shape commonly used in video games for real-time collision detection. Wikipedia, 4 July 2015
Curently, the top/moving part of the turrets have a cubic hitbox. For example, even if you are shooting with your rifle near the turret, not on the "model" but on the "placement box" (sorry, I have no better termes to describe it) of the turret, it will damage it. You also can't walk through this, this is frustrating.

I know that it is surely for both simplicity and performance (and issues too). It's also easier to hit them with a larger hitbox, but this is not really the problem I encountered, it was just an example.

In my case, I was building a small ship, designed to fit on a 4 cubes wide and 2 cubes high station entrance. But I had the idea to add a turret to target only missiles for defences (it is a non military ship but I hate beeing targeted by missiles :gordon:), and now of course it do not fit anymore. Even if visualy it should fit. (I forget to say that I disabled the automatic movements, so yea, when it should target the top position, yea, perhaps it should "touch the roof", but it's not the case)

I'm not hoping for a solution, or yes, a little but I know it will not be "solved" until KSH eventualy update the hitboxes in a more or less near futur. I'm just here to talk about it, because in some case, as the one I am experiencing, ships are stuck by hitboxes, emptyness hiting any other bolcks or emptyness itself, resulting in a "You shall not pass !!" or into the so famous explosions.

So ! Ehm... Do you think it will be updated one day ? Yea, useless to say that it is still an alpha and that it isn't the priority, I know. But, anyway, I think it could be a great thing. A "plus" as we can say. I think. No ?

May 23/2023; this issue is STILL not resolved.

They have also yet not updated how complex blocks interact with one another completely, (gyroscopes and thrusters vs movement blocks as one of many examples) so when they get ahead of themselves and introduce new blocks, say an event controller or combat/movement blocks, they will inevitably conflict with other blocks, and/or fail to work properly which forces Keen, and their community mainly, to do emergency debugging under maximised criticism and optics for not testing properly.

Keen seems to have developed this attitude that if they release the source code and a rudimentary guide to modding, it's enough for them to bug-hunt, and ermm 'contract out' their coding as cheaply as possible. There was no proper Beta; only a reliance on the players and modders they seem to treat poorly on their discord when they think no one can screen-grab certain DMs...

Not only is their clear racial bigotry and arrogance in this quote from one of their lead developers, this also implies they possibly have no qualms about ripping off their more ardent community supporters, modders, and not paying them properly...

Marek Rosa, CEO also said recently that 90% of his efforts are now on something called 'GoodAI', that's where 'GoodBot' comes from, and is discussing something called Badger-Learning, which sounds 'interestingly' a lot like the 'Honey Badger Algorithm' or HBA/IHBA, which is used for calculating output for semi-automated solar generators we use today in life.

Mr Rosa also seems critically conflicted in scope.

Considering the last major post about SE from Mr Rosa was June 2022, this leads me to assume there are going concerns for Space Engineers and likely any sequels Keen may have promised. Mr Rosa did mention a game in the works, and if that is this so-called sequel, He has not recently mentioned anything about Space Engineers or any sequel, other than it being a cash cow for now.

Thank you for necroing an old post to only rant, and to use slurs.

Hi, the game was not the same in 2015 and we must report to the SE Programmers on their support portal now, the contact links are in the pinned important green messages.

____

Important to know :

We lock +3 months old discussions because the game is not the same after a update where old disscussions may contain false information, discussions that don't have any activity so no new posts since 3 months. also to avoid community reports about "Necroing old" and it is in the forum rules added to pinned green messages.

Never be shy to create a new forum discussion, one problem at a time so all players can help on one idea/problem per discussions that matches the game version.

This discussion is now locked because too old and don't be shy to create a new one that matches the game version.

The first False information I have noticed is when the OP said "can't walk through hitbox"

=
