The Grind for Gravel!!
so i hadn't played in a while and wanted to try a Scenario for the first time.
Doing the one on earth thing uh, lost colony?

i have to make roughly 2000 reactor components to repair a.... reactor.
Apparently, this needs a trillion gobs of gravel. I've made a large machine JUST FOR gathering stone, then put it thru my refinery with 4 yield modules, but it hardly makes a dent in my igneous, mountainous gravel needs.

TAKING FOREVER! am i missing something?? how should I be making gravel???

thanks,

most people run sevral refineries at once, and for gravle id say use speed modules

the yield modules should be giving me more gravel than speed modules

per peice... yes. but the speed ones push thrue it rapidly.

think of it like this, tho the math isnt exact as im using examples. yield give 25% extra, and you get 4 moduals per refinery. but it still goes at the same speed as without modules.
but the speed moduals increase speed by roughly 50% each. so with 4, you end up with an additional 200% instead of an additional 100%, but you use stone faster.

the speed mods push ore faster than the bonus you get from yield. ones faster, the other is slower but yields more per piece. but speed gets thrue it far, far faster than the yield benefit

Full refinery with 4 yield modules turns 10000kg stone to 280 ingots in 20 seconds. Need 20*2000 gravel. So need 1420000 stone to 40000 gravel in about 47 minutes.

okay cool. so right, i need to mine an un-earthly amount of stone. this is my problem. speed never was. refinement will be long done by the time i return with more stone.
but is there a better way??
does the survival kit make more gravel out of stone? i don't think so.
gravel is so hard to get! must be worth millions.

Lost Colony scenario?

yeah. just finished grinding out all the gravel. had to build a special miner truck and then slogged away. seems that zhang girl ruined everyone's life.

The more advanced refinery refines at higher rate.
Gravel is considered slag (junk) for the majority of the game, since reactor components it the sole use of the material.
It's all a matter of using rotors, pistons and hinges to build a single drill rig with a high area coverage, and you'd have as much stone as you want.

What I personally do in my games is when I first establish a base I set up a small cargo container for nothing but gravel and have a sorter to get rid of extra gravel

So when I'm ready for reactors I have plenty

Also I like underground bases on planets so I get a lot of stone

that's some fancy stuff. all i made was a tractor lol

If you just need stone, then create a static drill rig. Basically, drill down into the stone next to your base/refinery. There are lots of tutorials on Youtube on how to create a rig. You'll be able to mine enough stone to take care of your shortage in no time.

well that's exactly what i did at first, but it wasn't even close to enough. so i made a mobile drill rig. small block, took too long. so i converted it into a 2 drill lawn mower. worked pretty good.
