Currently, I use a Star Trek style transporter mod that works well enough. Can't transport grids, though, and it can be pretty power-hungry (1 mw per km, iirc).

The blocks being cut into multiple pieces would require a LOT of effort and I don't think is possible.

Video I made of it working:

Having structures that can be split apart is NOT something Space Engineers is known for and I don't think its possible with the block system as is.
You should also consider other aspects of the game that can influence your decision.
Block ownership was a problem with me in what little I used the Stargate system. Every player had their own faction so if there was any peaceful player interaction, the stargates really couldn't be used because of factions and block ownership. Changing the block to no owner and general use was undesirable because this was my station and I didn't want rogue elements in general. As that server was shutting down I was making a SG1 Cheyenne Mountain thing with every conceivable weapon in the gate room to prevent access even if there was a SG1 iris available.
To clarify my Multi-block statement... In essence, id want a series of black that all have to be working together in order for this 'Stargate" to work. for example, you'd need:
1. A ring (duh, right?}
2. A control station to 'Dial" an address.
3. A special generator specifically for the gate. Perhaps some sort of wormhole generator or some such.
4. (optionally.) Maybe some kind of stabilizers, that work in conjunction with the ring to keep the wormhole stable. perhaps these and the ring get worn down after each use and need to be maintained.
5. some sort of door/ramp that would allow you to seal the gate. similar to an iris, but with less folding away to impossibly small spaces.
and as for ownership... Id like the system to work through ownership in the "anyone can use' or allies only and such settings, but include an override code of some sort. if an enemy wanted to use my gate, they'd either need to be allied with me, part of my faction, OR need both the gate address and access code.
I have no idea how viable this all is. I've got no clue what happens under the hood for stuff like this... Still, thanks for the input!
Thank you for that! Ill be giving this one a try for sure. love the mechanical claps and such.
