workshop ships suck for official server pvp
Anyone notice almost none of the ships on the workshop are viable, not about taste but objective viability.

a timer and medbay combo is a MUST on all grids
10K pcu or more i needs to have multiple control seats and spawns
rails and artillery with Gatling, interior turrets coverage for rocketman are also non optional
all grids need a defensive move combo for offline raid protection
all grids need a drill and full production
Everyone of these ships are filled with conveners and are short on o2/h2 gens
you need 4 gens per large tank to re-fuel in 30 mins
we're also limited to 5 drills, welders, grinders and 20k pcu so your 65k pcu brick with no medbay and no refinery no rails with 10 tanks but only 2 h2 gens, isn't viable
Also subgrids! ♥♥♥♥ just explodes and you can't do combat with sub-grids tugging the grid every which way.
oh and lastly you need various power sources since if your grids get depowered they get deleted.

All this makes me think the people who build ships are not the people who actually regularly play official multiplayer server survival pvp
Anyone know any workshop ships that are actually viable? Or at least ones that wont need a complete rework

One of the reason that the workshop "could" be lacking the best PVP designs is that everyone can look at the players profile and look for weakness.

And Offline protection is easy to deal with unless it is a Timer block with warheads that blow the entire thing up.

Most folks design their ships for their personal play-style, and since no two people have the exact same play-style, you will find stuff that they do might not be what you would do.
My suggestion: Build your own ships and rely less on the builds of others.
I have a couple of workshop ships myself. I got them because I liked what I saw, but as we both now know, looks aren't everything.

<Grumpy Tone> Because the workshop ships are usually made to look nice. Only the rare ones work in combat. That works because you aren't supposed to cheese your way. _Make_something_good_yourself_ !!!. PVP is fine when both sides acknowledge it first, PVP when someone isn't looking for it is inappropriate. </Grumpy Tone>

Offtopic : There is a leeeennngthy ongoing discussion of why players do not like PVP over on the 7DTD game.

This post puzzles me a bit.
1. For strictly pvp, why would ALL grids need a drill and full production? that a lot of dead weight and PCU to be moving around for not a lot of shootyness? Small grids don't support that anyways so are fighters/bombers/drones just dead to you?
2. Why are timers and medbays needed? I don't know what you would need to toggle with a medbay.
3. you could use a safezone for offline protection so AI flight is not STRICTLY necessary for offline protection but yes its otherwise a good idea. Also makes sense if your production is on said safezone so it doesn't need to eat up PCU needed for guns
4. There are numerous applications of subgrids, and some have merit in PVP, Custom turrets for large grid railguns, custom turrets for high-density autocannons and assault cannons, cruise missiles, and lastly the probably will get you banned for being to cheaty/laggy clang weapons. I will concede if someones subgrids are more than a few percent of total mass of the grid they don't know what they are doing and that is annoying to fly, but if that custom autocannon turret is what you are on about i don't know what to say.
5. multi power is not needed but can be handy, a reactor can produce power for years with a full inventory. if U economy is a problem offline just set up a low power mode with some event controllers

A PvPer who thinks everything should be geared towards them and PvP in general. How original. You are partially correct about one thing though, and only partially because I am only speaking for myself. Anything I put on the workshop is generally made without consideration towards servers or PvP. I do not often play multiplayer, and I certainly avoid PvP like the plague ship that it is, purely because I do not enjoy that atmosphere. So no, I will not apologise for creating and posting builds that fail to meet your standards. As has been mentioned, build your own and post it on the workshop yourself if you don't like what you see. There's plenty of information on how to do that. Good day to you (slams door).

PVPers are generally protective of their designs. They don't want people using their own designs against them and don't want people to know where their ships weaknesses are.

I would disagree with that comment.

At surface level it may seem like very little thought goes into a build, but designing a functional and aesthetically pleasing ship can actually be quite demanding.

It is also important to remember that this is a sandbox so not everyone is going to be building to the same requirements.

Hi, looks like you play on Public server with huge limit and need a ship setup for the server you play in, I am sure one will make that ship for you if kindly asked.

Me, my son and best friend play without limits when we go MP, we don't like the Official servers because too limited for our gameplay.

Here is one reason why I could not play on servers having block limit enabled and very restricted.

Just look at my Favorite Drills and you will know why ;)

Since you're such an expert, why don't you design and build this perfect PvP ship and upload it to the workshop?

"Make_something_good_yourself_ !!!"
OH, OH, OH! Man you NAILED MY months ago POINT RIGHT TO THE WALL!!!
AND, the in regards to the off topic, it is because players over there are more interested in the survival the zombie thing of getting resources and supplies(hint, hint), not the pvp and bandit theft or fight thing among players, while fighting the zombie attacks on top of that.
OBTW thanks for that comment you stated, I was going to do a reply here, but you took it.
So every ship in 20,000PCU vanilla has to be a Gucci ship? LOL... are you a newb to the official servers? You can do a lot with 20k PCU if you know what you're doing. Every ship doesn't have to be mining and refining capable. Dodging while you are offline? Why waste the PCU? Don't leave your ships somewhere that they can be found when you're offline.

The only thing that bothers me are people who use alter accounts to add PCU to their ships. Keen turns a blind eye to people logging in under a different account to add more blocks than others with only one account. That's always got on my nerves and Keen just shrugs on this pay-to-win behavior.
