I would buy Space Engineers 2 if...
So there's going to be an announcement of some sort on December 5th. Odds are it's Space Engineers 2. Then I got to thinking aloud what would motivate me to buy SE2.

I would buy SE2 if all of the DLC I've paid for transferred over from SE1 to SE2 and I did not have to repurchase it. Keen could still build SE2 versions of DLC blocks that looked better or with better functionality. The "old" DLC could be put on permanent discount for new players while new DLC is being developed.

Your turn. "I would buy Space Engineers 2 if..."

...they asked me to buy it. I'm a sucker that way.

Hi, to be honest I have all DLCs and rarely to never use those, well I use sometimes because available and would not bother me without any DLCs.

I will buy it anyway just because I like the creative tools they made and what I like the most is to create ships and stations in space so that would be the "IF" for me.

From a creative player ;)

I'd get SE2 if it could get steamdeck support, im not even concerned for dlc, i just want to build forever on my deck without having the linux issues of SE1, that said, i still love SE1 on my steamdeck even though it have issues with it, i manage fine with little problems. so i'd be happy to see SE2 supported on steam deck

...they release a Space Engineers 2.

... my PC will be able to handle the new game reasonably well. I don't really have demands from the game itself on top of how well it looks with the engine improvements. As long as it has all the NPC interactions already in place so that there's something to do and work towards, I'm in.

That is a consideration. One hopes the new engine will unlock more of the potential compute resources available in modern configurations, so that the game actually runs faster.

My concern is that the new game will go overboard with the graphical elements. My GPU is already struggling with 60,000 PCU used on a single player map. 10k PCU seems reasonable in multiplayer for a ship, but infrastructure, and aesthetically interesting infrastructure at that, seems to require a lot more PCU. The aesthetically pleasing blocks also carry higher polygons and thus heavier GPU rasterization load.

I want the game to look interesting, and it perhaps does need to have some improvement over the existing engine, but it is still more "Open World" than Linear UE4 graphics showcase. I've heard a lot of complaints about Minecraft causing strain on systems, I can't imagine what Space Engineers might do in the future.

Build small, or build big? A High Graphics presentation with a "Build Small" focus, might keep the original Space Engineers alive for longer than expected...

That sounds like half-baked MMORPG stuff. It might make the existing Economy stuff a bit more engaging, having actual NPCs to interact with. However, would it make the game world anymore "alive".

The existing game has systems which are cobbled together in a kind of "cold soup" mix. I can freshen up the dish and make something interesting out of it. How does one make NPCs anything more than just another ingredient in that cold soup, without going down a more linear gameplay path?

I love SE as it is so wonder what they will do when SE2 comes out reguarding the old players.
They helped them grow big with bying the "old" game. The team would not leave us out to dry would they? I suspect some sort of crossover or some sort off compensation if not.

The thing is,
- how insane will the price be,
- what type of high end computer will we need to run it,
- how soon before expensive DLC's start rolling out containing blocks that should have been in the base game
- Will all the DLC blocks that are in SE be part of the SE2 base game or will that also be only available through DLC's
- Will they keep developing things for SE or forget about it and just work on SE2?
… they offer it

Though it occurs to me I might actually miss the puzzle of making small/large grids play nice together.

... They have natural caves.

I would love nothing more if I had a reason to build mining drones or a mining shaft with conveyors to transport rare ores deep underground up to the surface, instead of just having a colossal mining rig to dig a huge hole and take the whole vein in a minute.

I'd buy SE 2 if all my SE 1 saves, blueprints, etc, could be seamlessly transferred over.

I sure hope KSH isn't planning to do us like they did the player base of an engineering game set in the distant past. :-(

What I hope they are planning, is an SE 1 update were they do a VRage engine transplant; that may be wishful thinking. :-)

All blueprints can be converted to SE2 without a problem. So this implies that dlc is also included. I heard this on some YT channel.

Personally, I've been playing since day one and I'll buy SE2 and all its DLC exactly as I did SE1 just to support KSH. :se:

My only negative point is the 5120x1440 interface, which has never been corrected :sefacepalm:... But for the rest... I like it a lot. :sehello:

That's a good point. Personally, I think SE2 should include all the preexisting DLC for free, and focus on new DLC. It would be a bad look for Keen to release new game that's segmented on launch into a dozen DLCs. Most games I own do this with their new versions - for example, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen included all the DLC for the original Dragon's Dogma.

What are the Linux issues in SE 1? You can start a new thread or point me to an existing thread if you want.
