Please let us change the cargo storage amounts to be smaller!
Such a simple thing and for years Keen just won't put it in the game. Please just allow .5 and .25 values for cargo space in the config.

why the hell would you want SMALLER cargo holding? you already need so much storage blocks its not funny

I like the storage at 1.0, but I can see where OP is coming from. The capacity of the large storage crates is unrealistic; like there's some sort of compression or non-euclidean shenanigans going on
You can do this easily, the multipliers are in the save's Sandbox_config.sbc, I just set BlockInventorySizeMultiplier on a new save to 0.33 and my survival kit's storage capacity is 330L.

Make a new world, configure it how you like, save it,

win+r, %APPDATA%\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\bunchadigitshere\yoursave

I have a couple game-start templates saved as "xyz Seed", when I want a new world I just load game, select the seed, hit "save as" and that's my custom config all set up.

LMAO! Good one...

I think the OP is talking about changing the maximum number of liters per block. This can be helpful when mass is a consideration and over-filling might be an issue.

For example a miner that will crash if the large cargo container is filled with ore. But will be fine if only half filled with ore.

Realistically, the cargo volumes should be smaller. Even if you play with "1x" settings, the cargo container capacity matches the external block dimensions. That means the wall thickness is zero. Should be some amount smaller to allow for the container walls.

If you increase the volume multiplier to be bigger than "1x" it's just ridiculous. Some kind of inter-dimensional bag-of-holding...

more thrusters! XD

Some clarifications - I don't like easy games. I like challenges, and creating containers that hold less means more flights/trips to/from mining sites and bases. It means more containers which mean more material investment into the ships and having to strategize and plan that out.

Changing the config to a negative or decimal value breaks the config, and the game ignores the value and defaults to something huge.

I play with industrial overhaul, which requires additional considerations mining and traveling. I also limit what ores spawn on each planet/moon, and I play with the Hydrogen nerf mod which makes hydrogen as a fuel source very inefficient. All of this combined allows for a more strategic, linearly progressing gameplay experience that adds a purpose and challenge to a survival game.

I suggest you try that again, as changing the block inventory size multiplier to a decimal fraction works exactly as expected. Are you changing the correct value ?
eg
<BlocksInventorySizeMultiplier>0.25</BlocksInventorySizeMultiplier>

Note that you must edit the file when the game is not running.

Essyx, may I copy and paste your comment as a new thread? I ask because to me, this proves exactly what the game is designed for, in that the game is what you make of it. Which is the whole point of a sandbox game, is it not? Those complaining that there's nothing to do, are either new (which can be forgiven up to a point), lack imagination, expect the game to play itself, or all of the above.

Then you used some editor that tampers with the content, or maybe missed a dumb typo like everyone does now and then. Editing the config file worked perfectly for me.

What do you hope to achieve by starting again a discussion which has been ongoing ad nauseum in many dozens of threads since the game was first on Steam?

My understanding from peoples complaints is that the game is boring and that there's nothing to do. I believe that complaint is due to people not doing research before hand, and instead just immediately jump into the game and then run to the forum to gripe and moan. Again, without doing research on possible solutions to their problem. Unless I am mistaken, I don't think there is a dedicated thread to suggestions or solutions on how to make the most out of the game. I believe posting Essyx's comment, which is an excellent example of what to do, could be the start of that. This of course would also require moderator approval for it to be a pinned topic.

Yes, people are a problem. There is no easy solution to this... well there is, but it would be very unpopular. Good luck with your alternative plan anyway :)

I bet there's an .sbc file you can edit to achieve this.
