Things are vanishing on our server
Ok so we have a dedicated server (Gportal)

I just logged in and two things are missing that were there hours before.

I had a half constructed rover on a platform (that loss i feel the most)

We had a small building as the enterence to our mine.

No one has access to the server but us.

No drone attack (not seen one yet but theres no wreckage, no damage to the very exposed innards of our base)

Is this a common issue?

Yes. The common causes are misunderstanding and incorrectly setting certain server options. One is the trash removal settings, the other is the optimal grid count.

It can be yes, this sounds like trash removal settings so the following must be asked.

Was the rover powered?

Was the rover the spawn pod?

Was the small building powered?

Did it have a beacon?

If the answer to these is no, yes, no, no then the server simply deleted the grids. You need to alter settings to make it so this doesn't happen, make sure trash removal is set for much higher than the 500m too

Can you eleberate on this? optimal grid is 200 i believe and trash removal is on but this wasnt trash, no damage done to it. I fully except i may of set the server up wrong as I only started to use a server a couple of days ago lol

No Just the frame and 5 of the 6 wheels (had to stop to get more resources and then found i needed silver so it was put on hold)
technically there was also a landing strut too as I built from that (was told thats how you always start a build lol)

No, nope its the only thing my mate has built so far (he is hooked on empyrion so this was him practicing on here...not sure how he will take the fact its now in silicon haven with all the little calculators) but it wasnt anything amazing (we still havent even figured how you paint sides of blocks instead of whole blocks)

No, nothing we have built has one.....should they?

What do you advise I change it to? Though it should not of been classed as trash since it was never damaged or broken ?

Grids being broken or damaged isn't a factor, its to do with clutter from the concept of battle, if you blow a ship up there will be segments floating around that will clog up the total PCU limit so to prevent that problem the game simply deletes them.

Grids need power, batteries of any kind, they are quiet easy to make, landing struts are to make small grid on large grid yes but have nothing to do with trash cleanup.

Beacons are a setting on some servers as a means to denote an owned grid, you might want to check settings if that is a requirement.

Do love Gportal but the settings screen for this game is a bit of a disaster, descriptions for somethings in german and some with no description at all (theres a toggle thats just called "Battle")

Ok so what would you recommend the optimal grid be set to? how high can I whack that up to at a guess?

If you're building a small block vehicle or vessel that is the safest and approved procedure. If large block, it's sometimes better to start with a block embedded into voxel (planet or asteroid) but that can sometimes cause problems when you are ready and detach it to change it from a 'station' ... it's inconsistent, because, Keen. :/

You can't. Whole block is the only paint option. Workaround is double-thick walls or wall block plus catwalk plate (which is also very good for additional protective armour against incoming weapons fire)

Configuring trash removal settings is a challenge when you're starting out. If there's no npc warfare ongoing it can be better to leave it disabled at first, but watch for performance degrading and remember to look at it later.

Optimal grid count is normally set to zero which disables the random cleanups altogether.

Be aware that some settings on some hosts are not able to be changed by the client after the world has been set up, you either have to ask their support to do it or start a new world. Many settings are present in multiple files and have to be changed in all of them at the same time with the server shut down, because Keen just love duplicate data, unlike all sane software developers since the beginning of time.

We have added a ton of NPC encounter mods (pve is our main focus)
hmmmm I will whack it up to 20k and then drop it if theres performance issues....may not be the smartest approach but I have never been accused of being smart :)

Really annoying about the painting thing too, assumed I had just missed an option. Need to get Keen to play empyrion so they can see how to do decorative stuff (and mirrored in survival, npcs etc) or get empyrion devs to play space engineers so they can learn about awesome damage/physics and rotors, pistons etc.....
If only these two devs would work together

tbh so far im impressed with the game
visual studio supported scripting
Autopilot blocks for drones
huge planets
the physics...man the physics
damage system (when I first got the game it was a tech demo where you crashed one ship into another....there wasnt much game play but man that looked good)
Sound block (got uses for that planed!)

Just coming from a couple of hundred hours of empyrion in the last two weeks has our group judging the missing stuff rather than the added stuff. Hoping that will change with time

this is your save. It just doesn't get updated. Your server is taking a break. By default, a backup is created every 15 minutes. If you now build a lot but log out after 14 minutes, the server pauses and does not save ... so you have to wait 15 minutes or until you see "streaming", then the progress is saved.

Depending on how small your server is, this is blocked by the operator, but you can switch it.

<PauseGameWhenEmpty> false </PauseGameWhenEmpty>

Check also the Sandbox_config and the SpaceEngeneers-Dedicadet.cfg whether that is correct. If this persists, you have to contact your operator directly and ask if this is possible, but tap that it will not work.

Hi, all my unpowered grids get deleted when I move 3000m away from it.

But now I create my world in Local Offline mode and creative the very first time I create the world.
+
Do my Fav setting, load to test if all good, save/exit to set public mode and transfer that Loacal save to my Dedic Saves folder.

= The trash removal is way less aggressive this way, I mean by creating a creative Offline mode first.
